Yes, I'm 100% happy with the purchase and, therefore, I would do it again. The caveat though in my particular case is that I was able to sell my T1s at a favorable cost. Had that not been the case I may not have been fortunate enough to buy into the T Refs.

Yes, in my opinion the T Refs are significantly better than the T1's. I'll focus my response on the audio portion instead of the cosmetics, but note the improvement in cosmetics/cabinetry is also not so subtle and should not be discounted.

The Refs are more accurate in their reproduction of the sound. I can "see" how accurate the Refs are by watching music video. I honestly cannot find/hear anything wrong, and I've tried.

Besides simply "more" T1 sound, the Ref's are producing sound the T1 simply cannot, period. The Grateful Dead performed at the Onondaga Auditorium in Syracuse, NY on April 8, 1982. I have a source of the show gd1982-04-08.109567 SBD -> Cassette Master -> Reel -> Dat (48k), Transfers and Mastering By Charlie Miller. As I listen to the drums portion of that show (which I can make available to wanting forum members) there are plenty of sub 20Hz "bass bombs" that when played at the proper upper 90 to low 100 db peak level reveal what I'm speaking/writing of. The T1s simply did not have the energy to reproduce the bass the way the Refs can.

Stereo5, it is also *possible* the top-end sound you are accustomed to with the T1 is "off" (i.e. not as accurate) and what you are hearing now is the correct representation. I did mention that initially I felt the top was accentuated more so than the rest of the frequencies. But I'm not sure if this "went away" because of the top end breaking in, the bottom end breaking in, or my ears just becoming accustomed to way it should sound like. Also keep in mind the T Ref mid bass drivers are 6 inches and the T1 are 5 1/4. So you will get more top end sound. Perhaps adjusting the bass control to your liking could help alleviate any top end brightness.

Stereo5, another suggestion might be to run a frequency sweep through both of your systems. For example, you could try the following sound check at low volume (say 50 - 60 db) through both of your systems (one with T1 one with T Ref) and use the same volume level in both cases.

Listen to the top end of the sweep on both systems and try and determine if the Refs are playing those frequencies any louder than the T1. The test could also reveal a problem with a driver, although it is rather doubtful there is a driver problem. A frequency sweep of this kind should basically sound identical when played back on any quality audio system.

The fact that the T Refs are taller should not be a factor as to the top end because the tweeter is at basically the exact same height as the T1. The larger cabinet is essential in that it contributes to the monstrous sound the Refs can produce. They play loud effortlessly, noticeably more effortlessly than the T1s did.

Stereo5, give them some time. They are significantly better than the T1, I've made the comparison many times. No contest.

Although (according to elubow!) I can't answer the real question since I didn't own T1's, I can at least say that my Refs are smooth and balanced from the lowest notes (I think around 15 Hz) up to the top end. The midrange drivers are fantastic. The soundstage is also impressive even though they're not completely broken in and I haven't spent much time positioning them yet.

Perhaps stereo5 could list a few of the tunes that led to his conclusion about the tweeters and those of us with Refs, as well as other Titan speakers, could compare the sound on our systems.

Yes, of course that recommendation is certainly worthwhile. However, in cases where a speaker just doesn't "sound right" I always think it is best practice to re-check the basics. Is the cabling connected with correct polarity? What is the bass control set to? Does a frequency sweep 20Hz-20KHz sound correct? Do the flashing lights at power up flash 25 times each? Etc. etc.

Not I, so I cannot comment on any fix.

There *is* a purposeful and as intended/manufactured gap at the very top right hand side of the front grill. It is approximately 1/3 of an inch long and is the same on both speakers. I believe it is used to facilitate grill removal/placement. And, in bright light, if you look straight down the front grill column you can note two curvature lines about 3 inches from the base and 1 inch apart, spanning about 2 inches. This is where the cloth/grill are in contact with something (not sure what), but it is identical on both of my speakers. Point is, I notice things
