WARR: why dont you pick them up and try them in a different room just to test?

STEVEO: since you started this thread, what's the status on your end? are you still having issues? did you try a different amp and/or speaker/power cables?

Thanks

I have been considering trying a different room but its much more than just picking them up - LOL My amps are 140 lbs not to mention the wiring and 88 lb speakers etc. I will be doing that as last resort.

Unless the amp is broken, or the power cord or speaker cables don't work, these are not likely contributors to an issue of this magnitude.

BREAK THROUGH!

Found the problem! I place some acoustic panels about 8 ft. behind me and in-line with the direction of the speakers (Imagine an "X"). I also put one in between the 2 outer panels.

Results: The "out-of-phase" problem - gone! The lack of volume in the center image - gone! The 20% problem recordings - Good! The other 80% recordings that seemed to have little to no problems became much better in the detail and center imaging prominance!

So now begins the fine tuning!

I have experience dealing with rectangular rooms and none with "L" or "T" shaped rooms so I thought if I were to block off the "wings" of the "T" then maybe something would reveal itself - and it did.

Thanks for putting up with the ramblings... and off to build some acoustic panels that look good!

Mark

Thanks. I was not expecting that dramatic of a change!

I use 1 1/2" x 3/4" poplar to make frames. I use 2" of Roxul 60 Acoustic 2' x 4' for high freq., and I use 4" of Roxul 80 Acoustic 2' x 4' for bass traps or I use Roxul "safe and sound" and make triangles and stack them in the corners (with periodic support shelves so they don't compress due to weight) for bass traps.

I build the frames so they have several inches of space behind them. When finished I wrap them with an acoustically transparent cloth. Speaker cloth works or "Guilford of Maine" makes some nice looking stuff as well.
