"Miss Sloane" is a VERY good movie about lobbyists in Washington D.C.
It shows how horrible the system is.
Jessica Chastain is one of the best actresses I have seen in a long time, and she does a superb job in this one.
PQ was fine, SQ was fine, DTS 5.1 but nothing noteworthy.
It was not that kind of film to show off technically.
But the writing and acting were tremendous.
I cannot exactly say I really enjoyed this movie, as it is hurtful to watch the rats in Washington that will do anything to stay at the public trough, as she puts it.
But I totally recommend this film as important to watch, highly entertaining as well.
This is a thinking person's movie.
But even I enjoyed it, ha ha.
God Bless,
Wayne

Tonight was another bust, "The Last Face" a Sean Penn movie, shame on you Sean, you can do better than this!!!!
I saw that IMBd gave it 2 stars, but Rotten Tomatoes only 1 star. I agree.
Miserable. Flawed. Good acting in some spots, but in a hopeless cause. And that is exactly how they portray Africa, which surely is exactly what they probably did NOT want to Do!!!!! You could tell from the preachy bits.
PQ was OK, SQ was terrible. I put this down to the disc really being in French, but I got the English dts 5.1 soundtrack, only I turned it up to the point that any gunshot or grenade scared the be jollies outta me, while the dialogue was so quiet as I could hardly make it out. Something definitely wrong with the soundtrack.
NOT RECOMMENDED.
as always YMMV.
And I like Bardem and Theron. In other movies.
God Bless,
Wayne

Last night I watched "XXX Return of Xander Cage".
I was not expecting much, I have only found the previous XXX movies a mildly entertaining, mindless watch.
And so this was, EXCEPT it totally surprised me. I actually enjoyed this WAY more than I expected to.
It starts out like a James Bond movie, indeed there is a LOT here like the old 007 movies. Fantastic and very unrealistic stunts that make us think this guy is some kind of superman without the cape. And BEAUTIFUL GIRLS!!!! Wow, how can Xander satisfy so many great looking women?????
How does someone who looks, talks and acts like Vin Diesel get so many beautiful women?????
So skateboarding James Bond tears it up with great PQ but the SQ is what really surprised me. This is Dolby True 7.1 and probably ATMOS, I wouldn't know. I will say once again that I don't find the actual sounds as satisfying by Dolby as with DTS, but the surround use here during shoot-em-up scenes and explosions were stellar, all around use of the sound-field. REFERENCE quality, demo worthy.
This movie was way more fun than I expected. OK, still not that great a movie, but a solid RECOMMENDED from me.
God Bless,
Wayne

Am I the only one watching movies?
Oh, well, here I go again.
Tonight it was "LIFE" with some pretty good actors, a good script, Great picture quality and an ALIEN. When they gonna learn????
What interested me the most was the SQ here, in DTS (my favorite) 7.1 there was just LOTS to love here.
I would definitely say this is reference in a lot of ways.
There was loud, and deep bass, there were explosions, all good. But what I really enjoyed was the way the surrounds, all of them, were used to chase this creature around the space station, you could hear where it was and where it was going. Those aural cues are just what we use in real life catching the mice and rats and birds in the attic, etc.
It was a cool use of the surrounds and I loved it.
As for the story, some was fairly predictable, SAD, but good story telling. Well done.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, and reference/demo quality in some ways, some places.
Definitely worth a watch.
Just don't expect to sleep much after watching it.
God Bless,
Wayne

Hi, Wayne

No, I don't watch Blu-ray movies here; no HT system to get the full effect. DID add "LIFE" to the list of movies I'll get when back in TX.

Guess I'll owe a bunch of reviews when I fire up the GEt HT again in Sept... :)

Thanks for the review and another way to spend my money! We all seem to be pretty good at helping each other do that!

Thanks Bro Rick, or should I say "Dad" for your support!!!!

Tonight I watched "Lion" and it was good. Got lots of Academy Award nominations, good true story, good writing, good acting, feel good story, and when you get to the end, it gets you a bit.
WELL DONE movie.
The PQ was great, SQ was good I guess, got so engrossed in the film that I did not notice. DTS 5.1 No interesting use of surrounds that I noticed. Nothing reference.
But a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED movie.
Glad there are people like the Tasmanian couple in this world.
That little Indian boy actor, Sunny Pawar steals the show.
This could have been a MUCH tougher, MUCH more gruesome story, I am glad it was not such.
God Bless,
Wayne
