Yeah Guys,
The older Oppos volume control was actually shaving off bits of resolution as you turned it down. Whereas the 105 has a proper volume control that loses nothing (except volume of course). BUT you do need to be careful when not using a pre-amp or processor, IF you turn on your Oppo and its volume were to be all the way up, then you could get a LOUD surprise.
Otherwise the sound should be pretty sweet.
Looking forward to reading other reports as you guys experiment.
I need to route signals where I need them and I need room correction, therefore I run the Emo XMC-1. It does very little harm to the signal that I can hear.
I hope you all find what you need to really enjoy the music and movies.
God Bless,
Wayne

Just an update. My dealer let me borrow a Bryston bp26 to insert between my OPPO 105d & the T1's. I listened to 2 channel music over 2 days & did could not distinguish with the bp26 & without. So I will not insert a pre into the signal chain. Perhaps there are other pre's that are better but it satisfied my curiosity for now.

Thanks Dwight, that is good feedback, good information. Not really all that surprising, to most audiophiles, the shortest, simplest, straightest path is the purest and sounds the best.
It is great to hear it worked out that way for you.
You must have Golden Ears!!!!!!
Happy listening, Enjoy,
God Bless,
Wayne

Hi all, was not sure which thread to drop this system change into so I picked this one. I preparation for the impending cost increase and the e-club conclusion and the year end sale at Emotiva I have just replaced the XPA-2's in bridge mode with XPA-1s. If your not familiar with the e-club, it is $50 fee for a 10% discount across the board for 1 year. It was discontinued mid year, but all existing memberships will be honored until expiration.

Anyway I was shocked at how much better the XPA-1s sound! I am running them in class A mode. I am still doing an apples to apples test but on all material so far the XPA-1s are superior. The 1st thing I noticed was the presence and clarity of the bass. I am hearing nuances and clearly that I did not hear before. String instruments fade more clearly and highs are more spatially defined. It just sounds smoother all around. It might be subtle to some but when I sit and listen to a few tracks I know well and am amazed at the little things that jump out that were not there before I know its an improvement worth the money. I am glad I did not wait any longer to buy these guys. I can now move all 7 channels to external amps. The XPA-2s will go back to 2 channel and run rears/SS.

Enjoy,
DT

DT,

I think you picked the right time to upgrade. With all the sales and a discount, I'm sure you got a great price. Additionally, I'm not so sure about the Gen 3 changes that are pending. The transition from intnet direct to a traditional sales model may be a bumpy ride.

I am equally happy with my XPA-1Ls and have had similar results. I considered the XPA-1s but ultimately decided my listening habits didn't warrant the extra wattage. I've matched my amps with the XSP-1 and ERC-3 and am very happy with the results. I can't imagine a better setup for less than $2,500.

Cheers,

T Cobe
