Hey D. T.
That makes sound sense!!!!!! Pun intended.
Class A is butter.
All other classes are margarine.
Great that you can hear the difference because it is real.
That was a good move for your system.
Well done, enjoy it!!!!!
God Bless, Wayne

Hi Guys,
I don't know what has happened to our messages, the email notifications, etc. but I am not finding threads, or they appear latter, or out of order. Whatever.
Interesting comments here.
A question T. Cobe, are you running your XPA-1Ls in Class A????
I had to go to the Emo pages to search the difference in the two amps, and IF I read it correctly, the 1s are automatically in Class A up to 60 wpc, but the 1Ls have a switch to choose Class A or not. Is that correct?
I would highly recommend running in Class A, it will sound great AND keep the house warm this winter!!!!!
Just checking.
God Bless, Wayne

It's a noticeable difference, and the Gen 3 stuff is very different all around. So I decided not take a chance on the XPA-1 being pulled from the line. The XPA-1L has been discontinued?? What a great amp, wish they had not done that. If the summer referb sale has any I will buy 2.

What I am very happy about is the Triton 1's keep getting better the more signal I send them the better they sound!! My next step is to replace the RX-A1040 with a good preamp/pro. I'm leaning toward the Marantz 7702 mk2. I was hoping Emotiva would announce a new unit but the new stuff needs to be evaluated. I'm not sure I like the way they are headed. We'll see.

Just FYI the XPA-1s arrived several days apart, so I moved mi 1L in place of the other XPA-1 sounds great, The 2nd XPA-1 arrived yesterday and failed within about 5 minutes!!! They are sending me another one. We will see how long it takes to get here with the holiday shipping crunch.

Enjoy,
DT

Wayne,

Yes, the amps are very similar. The XPA-1L is class A to 30 watts, versus 60. There is a switch on the front of the amp to switch from class A to class AB. In class A mode, it will automatically switch to AB if you push it over 30 watts. The sound is buttery smooth to me, but it is also very neutral. The two amps are very similar, but the XPA-1 is much more powerful.

Cheers,

T Cobe

Splash51,

We share similar feelings on the XPA-1L and the pending changes for Gen3. I am also leaning towards the 7702 mk2, though the pending Anthem AVM-60 has me second guessing myself. The possibility of a factory refurbished Marantz 8802A is also quite tempting. Much of that decision will have to do with timing. I'm not sure how long I'll be able to hold off on the upgrade as my second Integra is having HDMI issues already after being swapped out Jan 2015.

Please post your impressions of the XPA-1s and the 7702 when you upgrade. Based on our shared appreciation for GET and Emotiva, I suspect we have very similar listening preferences. Thank you.

Cheers,

T Cobe
