Here's an update on my Triton One installation...

I built a 'relay switcher' so that when I'm listening to music (classical, on SACDs), the analog outputs of my Marantz SA8005 SACD player are connected DIRECTLY to the inputs of the NAD M22 power amp, which powers the Ones. It sounds fantastic!

The best preamp is none. You don't need a preamp with line-level sources. All you need is a volume control. Passive is OK; a 10K pot will work fine. Fortunately, the Marantz SACD player has a volume control function on the remote control. It sounds incredible.... tremendous dynamic range, excellent imaging, and scary-accurate reproduction. For my room, I set the Ones Bass control to about 9 o'clock.

The overall sound of "Living Stereo" SACD remasters are superb....those old simplistic analog recordings had excellent dynamics with minimal reverb, for a very "they-are-here" intimate sound.

I'm a happy camper indeed!

Thanks, Henryeng! Other folks have stated similar results. I may give this type of setup a whirl with my Oppo. I'm waiting for the replacement for the BDP-105 to come out before upgrading to the higher end audiophile version. What chipset does the DAC in the Marantz use?

Cheers,

T Cobe

The Marantz SA8005 uses the CS4398 d/a converter (Crystal Semiconductor). It can operate at up to 5.6 mHz sample rates.
