Tonight I watched a MUCH better movie, made my day.
"Jackie" with the fantastic Natalie Portman, perhaps the greatest actress alive, certainly one of them.
She was nominated for an Academy Award as best actress and deserved it IMHO.
PQ was nothing great, not bad.
But, surprisingly, SQ was AWESOME!!!!! It was done in DTS HD 5.1 and obviously is not the kind of film you would expect to use as a demo for your home theater, but you could.
The movie features BIG swells of orchestral music, cellos mostly, but all the strings, and sometimes the bass really comes through, especially towards the end.
The surrounds are well used throughout, very well in the shooting scene, but really just for the music. It is immersive.
And beautiful!!!!
The acting and writing were great, so I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this movie, and am surprised that I am. Indeed I had it for months before bothering to watch it, just did not seem like I would like it, but I really did.
God Bless,
Wayne

I feel like we have at least mentioned this movie here, perhaps reviewed it.
I watched it with my daughter Hannah (appropriately named for this movie) in the theater. I just watched it again in my home theater and enjoyed it with her, of course, but film experience wise, my home theater was better.
PQ is great, SQ is by way of DTS HD 7.1, my favorite and it was tremendous. Sounded GREAT!!!! Near reference quality, probably is, but not the kind of sounds one usually uses to demo their sound system.
It is SLOW, it is a thinking person's movie. Not an easy GET IT.
Wonderful actors and writing, super well done.
But a thoughtful movie.
Don't watch if you are an action only person.
Don't watch if you are a romantic, looking for a great love story, it is but not a normal one.
Do watch if you enjoy well thought out stories, good acting and writing.
My wife and daughter just fell asleep. I liked it and RECOMMEND it.
YMMV.
God Bless,
Wayne

OK, I am back.
Some of you guys were discussing things on another thread or two, I kept hearing the phone ding that there was another comment, but I was in the middle of a treat!!!!

Claudio Abbado and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, along with women's and children's choirs, an alto and more, were in my home theater performing Gustav Mahler's Symphony #3!!!!!
It was AMAZING!!!!!
There is nothing like the musical experience I get in my home theater with a great Blu ray of a fantastic performance of beautiful music!!!! NO music is as good to me as a concert I can see and hear in all its splendor and glory.
The emotional impact is one of pure joy!!!!!
I am BLESSED and THRILLED!!!!!
God Bless,
Wayne

YES, I am WAY behind!!!!
Finally watched "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them".
For those of you interested, I guess you knew this was a Rowling, of Harry Potter fame, movie.
I did not, but we watched it anyway, even though I know nothing of the franchise.
It was well done, but WAY over the top with CGI. Boring to me. Did not hold my daughter's attention either.
PQ was very good, SQ was also very good. Some very decent bass and use of the rear surrounds.
Recommended IF you like CGI or the franchise (then you have probably already seen it), otherwise don't bother.
God Bless,
Wayne

Is there a contest for the weirdest/strangest movie ever? OK, here is the winner, "The Lobster" with Colin Farrell and Rachel Weiscz. Lots of other good actors like John C. Reilly.
PQ was just alright, SQ was nothing to write home about, DTS HD 5.1
Well written and acted, CRAZY movie, I did not understand it at all.
Not recommended unless you are an ART movie fan.
Taken as that, it was kinda good. Made me think.
Interesting, very interesting.
YMMV.

The BEST Blu ray concert, therefore the BEST concert recording I have ever heard!!!!!
Got my Christmas present early, and listened last night and tonight. 22 songs!!!! And a wonderful short documentary about the first time they played there in 1971 compared to now.
I am talking about the new David Gilmour Blu Ray "Live at Pompeii" where they played there again this year.
David is joined by the great Chuck Leavell, also Guy Pratt, Chester Kamen, Greg Phillinganes, Steve DiStanislao, Joao Mello, and my new favorite backup singer, Lucita Jules. And more.
The PQ is amazing, awesome, the show, lights, pyro, lasers, etc. are fantastic, but the setting in the old amphitheater with Vesuvius in the background, WOW!!!!
But better than that is the SQ, in DTS HD 5.1 they had the whole place a rockin'!!!!!
The BEST performance and therefore sound of these songs ever, IMHO.
Do I agree with his philosophical stance in every lyric? NO. But the musicality here is undeniable.
MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BLU RAY!!!!!!
God Bless,
Wayne
