Some of my ship(ment) came in!!!!
So tonight we had family movie night, with "War for the Planet of the Apes". Caesar is at it again, another good one, I like this franchise.
PQ was VERY good, I enjoyed it so much I am again confirmed in waiting for 4K, it just is not much better than what I have now
on my Plasma TV.
SQ was in DTS HD 7.1 and superb!!!! Could be demo quality if you wanted, the surround info was rich, the bass was amazing in a couple of scenes, thoroughly enjoyable.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, this is quality movie making.
Enjoy, shoot, you all probably did already, I am always behind.
God Bless,
Wayne
God bless the child that's got his own.

"Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" was tonight's movie feast!!!!
This is an awesome sci fi bonanza with actual people, actors, well, for the most part. Some guy, who did not impress me and Cara Delevingne is in it, lovely.
PQ was just as good as anything I have ever watched. The world the Pearls live on is simply outta site!!!!!
The imagination behind this movie, Luc Besson, WOW!!!!! SQ was ATMOS, but I got it in DD 7.1 and it was outstanding!!!!
Demo quality for sure.
There was LOTS to love in this movie, the script was pretty good, the acting was not quite up there with the visual effects and story, but alright.
There are a ton of movies out there that do not use the surround speakers well, and WAY more which do not use the rears at all, for sure not well. But it is all here in this movie. AND the BASS came to play too!!!!
HIGHLY IMAGINATIVE AND RECOMMENDED!!!! Reference in many ways.
Was a little longish, could have used some editing and better acting, but overall many things in this movie were a TREAT!!!!!
God Bless,
Wayne

Hi Wayne, agree with you that Valerian was visually and sonically very cool but disagree about the plot - thought it was okay but not great.

Btw watch Kong on bluray a couple of nights ago and it was actually very good in all dimension. Worth checking out if you haven't...

This is a multi thread reply before we fly out tomorrow to be with NY family....

Wayne, I got the Pompeii Blu-ray, along with the Travelling Willburys DVD/CD's, (along with the 20 CD Martha Argerich collection of piano music, thanks Pbgalvin!)

Don't have time to play all through before leaving. First impressions:

Travelling Willburys. Played the DVD first, twice, and loved it! Amazing how those talents/egos worked together so well and loved what they were doing. Would have loved a Blu-ray version, but the talent and how they respect each other just stands out. Roy Orbison as the best singer, say all, Bob Dylan as the best lyricist, all playing together and having fun. Played the first CD, will have to wait and play the second after we get back. Amazing to me what great musicians can do working together. Smooooth.Hadn't realized Roy Orbison passed away before they finished... sweet scene of an empty chair with guitar in the DVD signifying Roy was still with them as they sang.

Pompeii. Visuals are absolutely stunning, best I've seen in a concert setting.... huge video disc overhead showing multi scenes, artificial fog, spotlights changing colors, fireworks, floods around the stadium, gorgeous stadium, Pompeii in the background. Amazing. Though I am a bigger fan of acoustic guitar, gotta admit the SQ is amazing with the electric guitars. Just started Part 2. More after I return.

Martha Argeron 20 disc classical piano set. Played disc 1 in 2 channel direct. The T Ref's just own piano. It's like being right in front of a grand piano. Every nuance just there. Played part of disc 2 in Dolby 9 channel Surround. Still love how the other GEt channels bring the sound out, concert hall like. Haven't decided yet how to play the rest. Gorgeous either way.

Off to NY early tomorrow AM. Happy Holidays/Merry Christmas to all!!!!!!
