Wayne,
To be honest, I've been using the spikes for about a month and I have now returned to the rubber feet. With the spikes I couldn't get the speakers to stand still and stable, the left speaker was a little wobbly probably since the floor is not 100% leveled. I don't have this problem with the rubber feet. Plus, the spikes are losing their figure while moving the speaker around, it's much easier to move the speaker with the rubber feet.

Lastly, I find the rubber feet sound better, probably due to better connection to the floor and reduced vibrations. I'll probably return to the spikes if I am using mapleshade plinths or the Subdude I linked to above, but for hard tile floors I think rubber sounds better.

On a different note - I got 4 GIK Acoustics Bass traps over the weekend. That made a much bigger impact on bass quality. highly recommended

On these stands or on the others mentioned above, I guess my 2 cents is that I reckon GE knew exactly how tall to make the speakers and they already provided stands with them or bases if you will. My only real question was whether or not to put in the supplied spikes, and I believe the resounding answer to that was YES. do so. I intend to put them in as soon as I get the speakers positioned properly, which might be a few days, but I doubt that I will even bother to try it any other way after that. I must not be as adventurous, or curious as some of you then. Or maybe I am just more in the WWSD (What Would Sandy Do?) camp.

Sandy uses the supplied spikes at every show and the reviewers use them for every review. So all those great reviews and comments from trade show experiences have all been with the supplies spikes. Although the listening window is narrow-ish (vertically), unless one was sitting very close, the few inches additional height would not be an issue. The included spikes should allow enough range to level and adjust for uneven floors, and have nuts to secure the spike after the speaker has been leveled and "de-wobbled". The rubber feet are much easier to deal with and provide one of the same advantages of the spikes (getting the speaker slightly off the floor to decouple). Most dealers do not spike the speakers for ease of movement in the store - just another reason the speakers will sound even better at home.

I have to second moderator dude on this...you can level the speaker by adjusting the spikes and then locking the position with the nut.

I am still testing the mapleshade platforms, however, I think I like the sound without them better so far. I also need to do more work in terms of leveling them, I think there was some bouncing around of the speakers.

I did not find the height to matter too much as far as I could tell, however I did find in my set up that with spikes on tile floor without the platforms seems to be clearer and punchier. I'm going to keep testing....

I also ordered some equipment racks, and will test that as well start looking at power and speaker cables :)

Moderator Dude, any thoughts on power conditioning for the speakers or is that not really an issue?
Thanks to everyone as always for great ideas and I have to say its just great enjoyment....spent last night again with my wife playing dj back and forth...

Hi Pitkow33,
I think you are exactly on the right track.
But I really liked the last part of what you said, even more than about the spikes.
"Just Great Enjoyment" with your wife and family is what it is all about!!!!!
God Bless you, and please keep reporting back what you find out.

Good question on the power conditioners Pitkow33. I have not added any power conditioning as of yet. I have just started checking into to it. To the others on this forum (Moderator included), what are your opinions, what are you using for power conditioning and what differences have you noticed (not just with the GoldenEar products, but with your entire system) ? To the Moderator, what are Sandy's opinions, and does he use power conditioners when setting up for shows?

I've checked that in the past, I believe the general concentsus is that it wouldn't really make that much of a difference. Remember that the power is only to power the subwoofer, I doubt a better power conditioner is going to create that much of a difference at those levels.
