Hi, I'm also interested in the original poster's question and didn't quite find the answer in this thread. Which is better:

- triton two's on a concrete floor with rubber feet
- triton two's on a rug with spikes

Note that a rug will still be there, I'm just wondering how BIG it should be (should it reach the corners of the room or not).

Thanks!

Hi Odedia,
I think the consensus opinion is that spikes are better than the feet.
And since so many people recommend bass traps in the corners, I would say carpet/rugs to the corners, or as much carpet/rugs as you can put would be a good thing.
I am no expert, just my humble opinions.
Let us know how it turns out for you.
Have fun listening,
God Bless,

Spikes are generally preferred for best bass performance, regardless of the surface the speaker is setting on.

That's very interesting, so you're saying that it's recommended to use the spikes, even on concrete floor? If that's the case, what's the reason for the rubber feet, simply a way to avoid scratches on wooden floors?

Will I see any benefit by putting tiny carpets under the triton (to lay the spikes on) or is that completely useless and I should just place the spikes on the floor? :)

If mounting speakers directly on concrete, most say it is best to drain the speakers' vibrational energy into heavy maple bases rigidly mounted above the floor. Carpet over concrete may worsen the situation.

Spike the Triton 2's with spikes of your choice... place on (spiked maple bases).

Mapleshadestore.com has some interesting information on this very subject.

The rubber feet are to prevent scratching wooden floors, or for people who don't want to use spikes (which includes many dealer display rooms). They do allow for levelling and for air flow beneath the base, both of which have some value.
