Anthem,
Did you ever try the stock spikes that came with your Tritons? The stock spikes do not have a "collar" above them like the aftermarket ones you tried. They should completely sink into the carpet and padding and not raise the speakers up any higher

Hey Guy's :

Yes I've tried the stock spikes that came with the speakers. Sonically they didn't make much difference. Better results have come from wood shelves out of an entertainment cabinet. I threaded spikes to the bottom and placed the speakers on top. Good sound but over time the wood became scratched and that didn't sit well with the wife. So bye bye to the shelves. The WIFE does my laundry and cooks my meals so don't want any animosity between us..ha/ha. I think maybe I'll try the stock spikes one more time...I want MAGIC like everyone else. I've tried about everything except the kitchen sink, maybe I'll give that a try.

Wayne you asked if the new spikes penetrated the carpet and coupled to the sub-floor. Short answer...no. The sub-floor is concrete covered with vinyl flooring and thick carpet and pad. I didn't feel the spikes were long enough to penetrate through the pad.

Another note...the spikes weighed about 2 pounds "each". One of the spikes actually pulled out the threaded insert. A little glue should do the trick.

Maybe I should change my Username to "SPIKELESS" ;)

Hey Spikeless in America!!!!
I believe the supplied spikes SHOULD work better than the expensive ones you bought. I think that is what MOBrien and I were getting at, and the Moderator Dude recommending, a good coupling to the floor through your carpet.
I DO understand how important it is to keep your wife happy. But usually these kind of spikes are not seen much. (Definitely not as sexy looking as the ones you bought though).
IF you do try the original spikes again, and IF they mess with the soundstaging and imaging, might it be possible to see if raising your sitting/listening position could adjust for them? Or try changing their angle a little?
When you get it all figured out, please tell us, as I reckon you have a LOT better ears than I do and are a more discerning listener.
Please keep reporting guy.
Thanks and have fun, Wayne

Hey Guys:

Last Sunday put the stock spikes on Tritons. The wife helped and got it done in no time. Decided too switch from my Adcom preamp to the Anthem Statement d2.v. Am using the 2-channel balanced XLR into CA azur 840C ; interconnects are Audio quest Cheetah.

First up Kombo - cooking out. These guys do the Hammond c3 organ right. The entire CD is great and now with my SPIKED Tritons the sound is superb.

Next up Fingerprints - Summertime Music : love this CD. They have a little bit of everything, vocals, sax, guitar and keyboards. What I've especially noticed is when the volume is cranked up the sound becomes clearer. I normally listen at 85-90 DB eleven feet from speaker.

Also did some Joyce Cooling- Global Cooling. Got it a couple days ago. The tracks Grass Roots & Rhythm Kitchen are a toe tapper. I have almost everything she's put out. I love her uptempo guitar.

As to the question "do the spikes make the speakers sound better or worse and in what ways"? I'd say better with the ability to play very loud with less resonance. Will I keep them on? You bet.

Still want to see how a tube preamp sounds in the system.

Well Wayne,I guess you can't call me spikeless anymore.

Gonna be listening to Dave Koz and Friends - Summer Horns, tomorrow. It's going to be a great weekend.

Everybody have a great Fourth of July!

Thanks Buddy for the update and for the pictures!!!
I am glad the spikes are making a good difference for you. Mostly, glad you are enjoying the music!!!!
I hope you can get some TOOBES in your system to try them out, see if that helps the sound.
I actually think it will.
Have a great 4th of July, it is the 4th here already. Now where did I put those fireworks????
God Bless, Wayne
