I hear you there, Wayne. I have no plans to upgrade any of my televisions to UHD until they die of natural causes. The only room I'm excited about having 4K is in my theater. I'm pretty sure the difference will be very noticeable on a 110" screen.

Cheers,

T Cobe

"Jurassic World" and "San Andreas"
Both were made to be 3D after the fact, fake in other words, and so we did not buy Jurassic in 3D, but did buy San Andreas and watched it in the fake format, was not worth it. I love 3D so had to try, but when I do it is not satisfying unless really shot in native 3D mode.
Having said that, PQ for both was all I could ask for.
Both featured Dolby True HD 7.1 instead of my preferred DTS. The SQ for Jurassic was fine, nothing reference.
BUT hold on now, San Andreas WAS REFERENCE BASS!!!!!!
The first earthquake shook the room, shook the couch, was THRILLING!!!!!!
This movie gave a workout to the subs in all 4 Triton towers and the FF 5 in the rear of the room.
Our daughter was screaming throughout a LOT of the movie, this was good entertainment.
Was the story/plot/writing/acting any good? Well, NO. BUT Alexandria Daddario is in San Andreas. And Dwayne Johnson tries to act.
Jurassic World, only slightly recommended, a so so movie.
San Andreas is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for bass heads!!!!!!
It is now my new, go to, reference.
God Bless,
Wayne

Watched San Andreas this afternoon. I have to agree with Wayne, Reference quality bass and plenty of it. This would make great demo material. I did not listen at Reference levels, but rather at -15 (-3 being Reference) Anything above -15 seemed somewhat stressed in the center channel. As Wayne said, the story/plot/writing/acting wasn't the best. Art Parkinson who played Ollie had a great performance as well as Paul Giamatti...love that guy. What can I say about the Rock...he can do it all. He is Superman, Spiderman, The Hulk, Mr. Incredible, all rolled into one. Some of the stunts were a little goofy, but overall, a pretty good movie.
D-Sonic m3a-600m Mono > McIntosh MC152 > Primaluna ProLogue Premium Preamp > Oppo UDP205 > Decware ZLC > Triton Reference > Isoacoustics Gaia 2 > Canare 4S11 Speaker Cables > Audience Forte 3, Anticable L3 & Shunyata Venom PC's

Every great performance deserves an Audience!

Anthem,

-15 is typically where I have my volume if I want to watch a movie at what I perceive as loud. Have you noticed any change as the speaker has been breaking in? Have you seen Ballers on HBO? I think that is my favorite program with Dwayne Johnson. I also really liked The Rundown. I think I've seen that movie 20 times. Besides the Rock, it has Christopher Walken and the always lovely Rosario Dawson. How can you possibly go wrong...?

Cheers,

T Cobe

Here's a good review on The Martian that we discussed earlier. Based on this, I'm excited to watch the film Friday. Sounds like the PQ and SQ are both top notch. Perhaps another reference movie???

Cheers,

Hi Guys,
In Dolby TrueHD7.1 (might be Atmos for some of you) I watched "Everest" tonight.
WHAT WERE THEY THINKIN?????
And it is a true story, go figure.
PQ is excellent--WOW there are some views!!!!, as is the SQ. But not reference to me. Helicopters always sound great in surround sound.
Good surround but most of the big sound was in front.
The story was good enough, but frankly I enjoyed "Vertical LImit" a lot more.
Here I am nice and warm, at 437 m elevation and trying to relate to the top of the world.
God Bless,
Wayne
