So I have about 50 hours on the T1's...

Now I'm wondering whether I have a good enough amp to drive these things. I have the Rega Brio with the Rega Apollo R CD player. It sounds great but the amp was $995 and the speakers were $5000. Any suggestions? Or stick with the Brio?

Hi gmwinder,

As Wayne pointed out, more power would be better. I see that the Brio is a 50Wpc (8 ohms), but only 73 Wpc into 4 ohm. I get concerned when I don't see such a low power amp doubling power into half the impedance. I is quite possible that this amp will run out of steam driving the T1s, unless you listen at very low levels. I think you'll hear a difference with more power. I use 300 Wpc (not that you have to go that high). If you can audition a bigger amp, you should hear a difference.

Charlie

Agree with you Charlie. The more power the more dynamic range and reserve.

gmwinder - you need to hear the T-Ones with a more powerful amplifier. Big difference in my humble opinion.

Well I spent a few hours at my local audio store here in Champaign- Glenn Poors - talked to the guys there and I actually measured the db reading from the Rega. At 40%, the db range peaked at 102. At 85db, the power was about 33% so it would appear the Brio has plenty of power to drive the TOnes and all the guys at the store agreed. But while I was there someone came in to test the Rega Planar 6 so I think this might be the next addition:)

More power is always better .. helps with dynamic range etc. Quality of amp will also help as the TOnes are surprising resolution for their cost ..

I use a Mac MA 7000

Could not be happier

Marsman,
I can picture you "could not be happier". With TOnes, a great MA 7000 amp and I always picture you with a half eaten Mars bar in your hand, you must be happy!!!!
Good for you man,
Happy listening,
God Bless,
Wayne

The T1's are sounding better and better....actually took a day off yesterday and today they sound amazing. I have wood floors in my room so I hadn't put the floor spikes on so decided to try them today since these come with the metal disk to save the floor. Tough to tell the difference because they sound so good already but there seems to be a little more clarity to the sound...does that sound right?

Thanks
