Any of the Michael Murray Organ recordings on Telarc.

Any of the E. Power Biggs remasterings on Sony/Columbia/CBS

The Saint-Saens Symphony # 3 "Organ" recording on Telarc with Michael Murray and The Philadelphia Orchestra, Eugene Ormandy

A digital recording of the Toccata from the 5th Organ Symphony by Charles-Marie Widor

Particular Bach selections: The G Major Fugue "The Jig" BWV 571; Toccata and Fugue in D Minor BWV 565

You probably cannot go wrong with Bach

Louis Vierne also wrote entire symphony for organ - check out Telarc recordings by Michael Murray.

Aaron Copland's Symphony for Organ ad Orchestra - excellent remasterings on Sony/Columbia

For something completely different, The Symphony # 11 by Dmitri Shostakovitch - wonderful remastering on RCA of the Leopold Stokowski recording with the Houston Symphony

These should hold you for a while.

Happy Listening,

Art

This thread has at least temporarily become a "disc review and how do T1's play them" topic. That works for me.

Wayne, I got the "Janacek" disc today, played it this afternoon. And yes the T1's (and T2's and SCXXL) were all singing!! Especially track 7, the organ solo! The pipe organ gets SO well presented by the GEt's! It's like I'm sitting right there, hearing and FEELING that sound.

Good call!

If you like what T1's can do to bring pipe organ sound to your home, deep, rich and full, you might want to try Reference Recordings (RR-107), Virgil Fox playing "The Bach Gamut". It's in stereo format and I play it as surround. We've tossed this one around before. Track 12 in particular, "Prelude in D". Talk about DEEP bass, hearing/feeling those pedal notes, feeling like you're there....

It's an HDCD, 24 bit recording, mastered from the 1975 performance as recorded by Professor Johnson.

Yes, T1's bring it home!!

$807 for The Bach Gamut! Sold!! I'm going to put my copy out there for sale. Maybe if I list it for 806 I'll find a buyer. Joking aside, this is a great album. It will pop back up at some point for a sane price.

I got around to listening to Janacek this morning after I finished my chores. This is definitely another great recommendation! The organ on this one was powerful. I listened in 5 channel SACD mode through my Oppo and AVM 60. It certainly helped having all of the subs active on this one. The sound was encompassing, but I did find myself wondering how the Atmos ceiling speakers would sound... :( Maybe for Christmas this year. I'll give Janacek another listen later and try it out on my 2-channel setup as well.

Cheers,

T Cobe

Hey, T

Now THAT would be a Christmas present you'd love!!!!! I played this in 9 channel "multi in plus Neural X", which I guess doesn't reformat the 5 channel piece, but up mixes the height channels. In a format like this, the heights don't sound like anything is directly overhead, rather like you're in a concert hall with a high ceiling, with the sound so enveloping, seemingly all around, more forward, more like you've got a great seat at the performance. I just always feel like "I'm there", listening in a concert hall or cathedral type environment.

Stay warm, enjoy your new high efficiency furnace and smart thermostat, and maybe come Christmas Santa will have something special in your stocking, rewarding you for all your patience and sound financial restraint!! :)

Happy listening!
