Hi Art. I think you would be hard pressed to find ANY speaker manufacturer who does NOT recommend using the equilateral triangle placement method. Granted, the equilateral triangle placement is not so exact that if the setup is "off" by inches or a small percentage of the formula rechneronline.de/pi/equilateral-triangle.php that it becomes a show stopper, however, and with do respect, I think you may want to revisit your interpretation. In my view equilateral placement is significantly more than a "general guideline". I'll go as far as to say that it is the theoretical ideal, and any deviation from that is less than optimal.
Also, my apologies to honashagen as I didn't have any intention of hijacking this thread (i.e. discuss placement versus the topic subject of mid-range sound).
