I have La la on my list to buy, but you said every scene is a homage. I suspect I will not know what it is a homage to. Will that make the film much less enjoyable? Sounds like it might. It's like a musical, right? Singing dancing and the like?
Oh well, I will give it a try if I find it.
I probably won't like it, but it is getting great reviews.
God Bless,
Wayne

Not getting the references shouldn't diminish the enjoyment at all. Some of them are specific homages but mostly it's just an homage to the golden age of Hollywood musicals. Now if you don't like musicals that will be a challenge. But this felt like a sprinkle of musical, not every scene is sung.

Thanks for that, I do NOT like musicals at all, but like I said I will try this one.
On your other post, "I am not a speaker designer, but I play one on the internet" hilarious!!!!!
Sorry should have posted this there, but I was already responding here, lazy it is called.

OK, Bro Rick,
I cannot find where you recommended that I go back and re-visit Roy Orbison's blu ray, "Black and White Night" but I am doing that right now!
WOW!!!!!
The Ones in front along with the SC-X and the Twos on the sides make this sound much better than I ever heard it. The bass is much better!!!!
Louder too, have turned it down twice!!!
The SQ is amazing as is his voice!!!!
The color sucks though!!!!
Thanks to recommend this, couldn't be better!!!! Seriously, I do not know of a better sounding disc, this is awesome all the way through!!!!!!
God Bless,
Wayne

Hey, Wayne

Great report on listening to Roy Orbison's "Black and White Night"! I couldn't agree more. What a perfect setting.. intimate nightclub, a stage loaded with music legends also (Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, K. D. Lang, Bonnie Raitt, Tom Waits, James Burton, J. D. Souther...), an audience also packed with celebrities. And boy did the sound engineers nail the SQ! It's like being there. The jacket cover calls it a "Once in a lifetime show". Amen to that, no exaggeration. IMO this is the quintessential Roy Orbison performance. Chills every time I watch it. And the guitar riff in "Pretty Woman", well just riveting. I usually prefer acoustic over electric, but those electric guitars were just plain SINGING!

imahawki wrote: Not on Blu-Ray but my wife and I just sat down to lunch after seeing La La Land. It was perfect. One of the best movies I've seen in years. I can't wait to see it again.

Every scene is an homage yet it manages to feel original. The singing and dancing weren't even perfect but they weren't supposed to be. Gosling and Stone were just perfectly cast too. The music and cinematography were just awesome, managing to be artistic but still completely accessible.

I just walked out in such a great mood.

Hey, imahawki

I'll second "La La Land"s entertainment value. We saw it in a theater also. Kind of a throwback to earlier movies. Can't answer Wayne's question whether he'd enjoy a "musical", and without "spoiling" any plot or scenes, it's entertaining throughout. We saw it with another couple, talked about it all the way home. Varied reactions, but all agreed it was special.
