Watched The Mummy Returns this afternoon, starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. Hollywood did an excellent on this film. It has everything you'd ever want...sword fights, gun fights, cat fights, kidnapping, villains, jump factor, humor, romance, and mummies & pretty girls.

PQ was exceptional -- SQ was supreme, with plenty of surround use. Subwoofer use was both rock solid and adequate. This is a great see anytime movie, thats fun for the whole family. If this one is not in your collection, it should be...reference quality. Highly Recommended.
D-Sonic m3a-600m Mono > McIntosh MC152 > Primaluna ProLogue Premium Preamp > Oppo UDP205 > Decware ZLC > Triton Reference > Isoacoustics Gaia 2 > Canare 4S11 Speaker Cables > Audience Forte 3, Anticable L3 & Shunyata Venom PC's

Every great performance deserves an Audience!

Another winner...Spider-Man 3 -- Toby Maguire & Kirsten Dunst. Once again Hollywood has produced a film that is both entertaining and enjoyable for the whole family. As with The Mummy Returns, Spider-Man 3 has it all...jealousy, romance, humor, over the top fight scenes and spectacular surround sound action.

PQ was great...SQ was Dolby True HD 5.1 -- ( I used the 5.1 Dolby D EX setting) spectacular sound and great sub action when present. Near Reference Quality...Highly Recommended.

Yesterday watched Casino Royale starring Daniel Craig.Recently promoted to 00 status, James Bond takes over his first mission, in which he faces a mysterious private banker to world terrorism and poker player, Le Chiffre. Along with a beautiful Treasury agent and the MI6 man in Montenegro, Bond takes part in a high stakes poker game set up by Le Chiffre in order to recover a huge sum of his clients' money he lost in a failed plot that the British spy took down. 007 will not only discover the threatening organization behind his enemy, but the worst of all truths: to not trust on anyone.

PQ was quite good -- SQ was PCM 5.1 uncompressed...it was good, but I did find center channel dialogue hard to understand at times. Not my favorite Bond movie, but good none the less.

Anthem,

I have also found that the dialogue on the 007 reboots is tricky. As I've stated before, Skyfall is my go to disk for speaker settings for dialogue. I have found since addressing my room acoustics, I am able to get exactly what I want with my crossover set at 70 Hz. The SCXL is much better in my room now that I have the acoustics and amplification worked out. Bottom line, it was not the weak link. Despite these improvements, I'm still planning a SCXXL upgrade. Did you ever take the plunge? I know you were considering it...

The PQ on the 007 movies is also reference quality and is often used for projector reviews. In all, they make good demo disks and are great fun! Perfect material for a 5 minute home theater demo for guests. Which Bond movies are your favorites?

Cheers,

T Cobe

T Cobe: you got me thinking on which Bond is my favorite...short answer, don't know. I found out there are 23 Bond movies, of which I've only seen a hand full. I own Goldfinger (good movie), Casino Royale, Dye Another Day (good) and Quantum of Solace (Craig appeared drunk/drugs most of time - wasn't his best effort). I've seen Skyfall years ago, but don't remember much about it, so went down to the video store this morning and picked it up to watch this afternoon.

My plans for the SCXXL got foiled. Since the end of July I've had 2 biopsies and 1 surgery for Melanoma on my upper left arm (surgery was 8-5-15) they took out some limp nodes in my under arm area and used glue and inside stitches too repair. They also took out a chunk between my bicep and tricep...still haven't heard on the test results for the second biopsy.Hopefully I can go back to work by the end of the week, until then, been listening to lots of jazz and movies. :)
