A friend came over today and wanted to watch a coupla westerns, "The Quick and the Dead" and "Once Upon a Time in the West"
Both were only DVDs so the PQ and SQ were not stellar.
Then tonight I watched "Nightcrawler" a Blu-ray. PQ was great, SQ was a DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack and quite OK, nothing reference or spectacular.
As for the movie, it did not hold a candle to either of the westerns seen earlier in the day. And I am not a western fan.
And my friend went on and on about how great the Picture was and the sound just blew him away.
As for Nightcrawler, EHHHHH, not really recommended, but it was weird and dark and disturbing enough to make it to some people's idee of a good movie.
Hope this helps,
Wayne
God bless the child that's got his own.

Right on about Nightcrawler, Wayne! Certainly makes you look at news in a whole new light. As far as the classics go, it's tough to watch with the PQ and SQ. I have to admit that I wish westerns would make a come back.

Cheers,

Tonight we watched "Stonehearst Asylum"
PQ is quite good in this Blu-ray, some cool scenes, especially the end.
SQ is a little disappointing, by way of Dolby TrueHD 5.1 It was fine, did the job, but nothing stands out as reference here, just competent sound.
I don't know who the dude, main star is, but Kate Beckinsale is in here with Ben Kingsley and Michael Caine among some other pretty good cast. GREAT acting, a GREAT script based on a story by Edgar A. Poe.
I highly recommend this movie as VERY well done, a super story, just GOOD STUFF here!!!!!
AND did I mention that Kate Beckinsale is wonderful in this? OK, she at least looks wonderful!!!!
A good movie.
God Bless,
Wayne

We watched Disney's "McFarland USA" tonight and I HIGHLY recommend it!
This is a lovely feel good movie, which I needed as there has not been much to be happy about for the 4th of July this year.
PQ was fine and SQ by way of DTS-HD MA 5.1 was unexceptional but fine.
But the movie is a REAL winner!!!!
My wife and daughter were screaming/yelling/cheering!!!!
Good movie,
God Bless, Wayne

Tonight I spun the blu-ray "Mortdecai".
I am a fan of Johnny Depp, and he was good as usual. I am NOT a fan of G Paltrow, and she disappointed as usual.
PQ was great. SQ was DTS-HD MA 7.1 and it sounded glorious, but nothing interesting about the way the surrounds were used, that I noticed any way.
Depp trying to put on a British accent is pretty funny. I hate British accents though, and there was already WAY too much real Brit accent in this movie from Ewan McGregor.
This was a Sorta funny movie, Cute, Silly.
Not recommended unless you just need some silliness in your life.
God Bless,
Wayne
