YES, T Cobe,
I did not forget!!! ha ha
I just got the hum problem taken care of in my LFE connection (broken interconnect cable, can you believe it?????).
I have shipped my amp for my SC X center channel to the dealer for repair.
When these repairs are all done, amp back in place, then I am ready for a final OLD SYSTEM listen before I change out the Marantx for the XMC-1.
Soon, a week or so I hope, LOTS other things going on as well,
God Bless,
Wayne

Wayne,

Sounds like your theater was mad at you for neglecting it while you were away! 8-). Hope you are able to get things patched up soon. I'm just giving you grief about the XMC-1, I can't swing it right now anyway so it doesn't matter how good you say it is. I hope your sub cable wasn't one of those fancy silver cables... ;)

Cheers,

T Cobe

Now's your chance. If not, Monoprice cables work well on my T1s. ;)

WHOA, I know the home theater is incomplete, needs work, etc.
But we watched "Boyhood" nominated for and I think Patricia Arquette won Academy Award for this movie.
She is a fine actress. was great in True Romance!!!!!
Boyhood was filmed over 11 years, so I will give them an E for Effort.
SLOW, DULL, uninteresting, not worth my time.
PQ and SQ were unnoticeable, as I could not get over waiting for something, anything to happen. Something interesting.
NOT recommended unless you just cannot get to sleep!
God Bless,
Wayne

A Tale of Two Transfers

I have recently been purchasing a few Blu-Ray updates for some older DVD movies in my library. New movie releases have been slow the past couple of months and there are some old titles that beg for the upgraded sound and picture of Blu-Ray. My two most recent purchases were Jurassic Park 3D and Star Wars: Phantom Menace. I assumed both would be great but I was wrong.

Jurassic Park was amazing! The improved picture and sound, combined with the 3D, made the movie incredibly immersive. The T1s really shined on this one! The level of fine detail in the picture was fantastic. It was apparent at the beginning of the movie when I could see all the detail in each grain of sand during the raptor excavation. Then, of course, there was the improved sound that was best illustrated during the T-Rex encounter. PQ and SQ were both 5/5.

Now, Phantom Menace was an entirely different story altogether. I picked up the newest Blu-Ray release in the box set that includes episodes 1-3. Reviews on Amazon raved about the PQ and SQ. I'm not sure what they were watching but I could swear I was watching a DVD that my Oppo was up converting. The picture was grainy, the sound compressed, and just lacked the punch of Jurassic Park. I had to turn the volume up about 3 dB above my normal setting and even then, it was not very dynamic. I would rate both PQ and SQ at 3.5/5. I felt like they released these in a hurry to make some money for the new movie currently in production...

One would expect icons like Spielberg and Lucas to make sure anything with their name attached to be of high quality, but one would be wrong. Jurassic Park 3D was fantastic and I highly recommend the experience! Maybe hold out for a newer criterion, ultra diamond, tin box, deluxe, extended, directors cut of the Star Wars...

Cheers,

T Cobe
