Tonight's movie was a come down from the sublime to the ridiculous.
We watched "The Monster" which my wife and daughter said was the worst movie they ever watched. BORING.
Not really scary at all, not making any real sense or artsy sense that we could detect, just dumb and SLOW.
PQ not great, sound, nothing to note.
NOT RECOMMENDED. Surprisingly some rated it up there, so YMMV.
God Bless,
Wayne

I was working in a customers home this morning and she was watching "The Greatest Showman". She bought it on Amazon and said it is a phenomenal movie. If you like musicals, this one is a Winner.
D-Sonic m3a-600m Mono > McIntosh MC152 > Primaluna ProLogue Premium Preamp > Oppo UDP205 > Decware ZLC > Triton Reference > Isoacoustics Gaia 2 > Canare 4S11 Speaker Cables > Audience Forte 3, Anticable L3 & Shunyata Venom PC's

Every great performance deserves an Audience!

Boys and Girls, we watched "Thor Ragnarok" tonight. A blockbuster.
IF you are a fan of the franchise then it must be a must watch. I wouldn't know.
But I will give it several stars for effort, more than that for good humor.
PQ was fine considering this is more like a cartoon than a movie. SQ was 7.1 and quite good. I did not notice any demo material. BUT YMMV.
I was mostly trying to stay awake and follow the crazy story line.
There are some REALLY good actors in this movie. The script is not bad.
RECOMMENDED if you like this sort of thing. I don't, but it was OK, good family entertainment which they barely stayed awake for as well.
They (whichever comic book team this is, matters none to me) like to cross pollinate, put their actors from other movies in there for at least a cameo. Dr. Strange was there, none in our family could remember his name until he introduced himself. There were others we did recognize.
But I miss Natalie Portman in a Thor movie. Or any movie.
God Bless,
Wayne

Cheering for Jordan Spieth in the Masters.

Tonight we watched "The Mountain Between Us".
PQ was quite good, some lovely mountain scenery.
SQ was 7.1 and I thought it was very fine. Not demo material, but well in the service of the movie.
Idris Elba is a favorite of mine, and the slut from Titanic, is a slut in this movie too. (Sorry, don't like Winslet). The script was fairly well done, the acting OK-she, not so much.
I would call this a recommended IF you really need some home entertainment.
Nothing better to do sorta love story.
As always, YMMV.
God Bless,
Wayne

Tonight's fare was "Murder on the Orient Express". It was not a box office success.
I am no fan of K. Branagh at all, but he was not too bad in this one. LOTS of star power here, but sadly the acting is not that great.
This remake is stylistically superb though, visually amazing, PQ is WAY the heck up there, cinematography wonderful.
Well written, but with a SERIOUS plot hole, it is not for everyone. It is slow and thought provoking.
The SQ in 7.1 is not used to show off the surround capabilities all that much, but when it does, or on music, it is FANTASTIC.
Not really demo quality, but FINE.
IF you want sorta old style Hollywood grace and beauty, then this is pretty much it.
RECOMMENDED. But remember it is NOT an action movie.
Watch it for the STUNNING scenery. Or leave it for those of us who like movies that are not cartoons or comic books.
God Bless,
Wayne

Tonight we watched "Jumanji, Welcome to the Jungle".
I only saw bits of the first one on TV, bought this one as it looked better.
I hate to say but this one surprised me, was quite an enjoyable film. Good actors here, good script, and a LOT of humor.
PQ was quite fine. SQ was only 5.1 for some reason, but it was GOOD!!!! The drums must have been cranked, volume wise for this movie, the bass rattled the room significantly. The surround was great, could be used for a demo but probably not.
The changing characters into an avatar idea was brilliant for seeing each actor differently and opening up LOTS of places for self deprecation, humor, laughs. Seeing Jack Black playing a beautiful girl in a man's body was pretty good, could have been milked more. Dwayne Johnson is rather a parody of himself anyway, all around good fun. Good entertainment.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you are in the mood for a less than serious movie.
God Bless,
Wayne
