Wayne, I came home yesterday from a trip to the west coast and this morning I noticed that my copy of Chris Jones' "Roadhouses and Automobiles" had come in. I have played the first track "Roadhouses and Automobiles", and because I was specifically listening for "crickets", I heard them easily. The crickets are a baseline throughout the track, but they can only be heard when Chris is not singing, and some of the instruments drown out the sound. The crickets are clearest and loudest at the end of the song for a few seconds - they are unmistakable then. You should also be able to hear it just before he starts singing for the first time. I was able to hear the crickets (at least a chirping sound) through the whole track, but to be honest, if I had not known to look for it, I am sure I would have thought it was part of the music and would not have paid it any attention.
What a wonderful album...
It is completely worth the $50+ I paid.
Try dialing the bass down on your Tritons, maybe the crickets will be clearer.
A few weeks ago, I did a side by side comparison of my dealer's Triton 2s and 7s. The 2s were more powerful and carried a much lower bass, but i can swear that the 7s had more musical detail. I feel that may be because it is a simpler design.
Now to go watch the Superbowl...
