Bro Art,
Still praying for Sheryl and great test results!!!
Your moving the T 7s to the most recommended location, changing them out for what I am guessing are lesser speakers, the KLH, so best that they are in the rear.
I am only guessing here too, but I would bet that the Cambridge receiver will move all your system to a higher listening state and once you get a GEt Center speaker and some great blu ray concerts you will be converted to mainstream home theater!!!!!
Ha ha
Enjoy the hunt,
God Bless,
Wayne

HI All,

Today, I ordered a Cambridge CXR120 7.2 AV Receiver from Crutchfield. It will arrive tomorrow (2-13-18).

After thinking through all of my audio options, I decided to "standardize" my audio system by using only Cambridge devices for audio processing and only GE Speakers.

Ordering the Cambridge to replace the Denon was step one. Step two has been to move my SuperSat3 speakers to the rear of the room, replacing the KLH Floor speakers in the Rear Surround application.

Ultimate Step 3 if other issues resolve successfully, will be to acquire a pair of Reference Speakers. That decision is pending the outcome of Sheryl's upcoming PT Scan and oncology reports.

Wayne, I know that you are really enthused about your AV setup and DSD audio. But, I have so much music in 2-channel format, that I must be content with what I can do with multi-channel processing for 2-channel sources. Plus, I am really not interested in watching live performances of classical music, whether symphonic, choral, or operatic.

But, I certainly am quickly becoming attached to the surround-sound support offered by my setup. Hence, the CXR120 decision.

The only negative I have encountered thus far is the Dolby, NEO, etc. technology's inability to handle a monaural signal input. Annoying for me because I have Mono LP transfers and some historic performances recorded on CDs which have been transferred to FLAC files. I'm still researching this one.....

If anyone has any ideas about handling monaural signals for surround-sound listening, I am all eyes.

I'll report back when I am able to listen to the new setup.

Happy listening to all,

Art

Good job Bro Art!!!!!
I think you are really on the right track!!!!
Getting rid of Onkyo and Denon is a great move, IMHO, and from what I have heard/read about Cambridge I am sure this is a step up!!!
Your sound should be more refined and better defined all around.
Enjoy!!!!
Still praying.
God Bless,
Wayne

Wayne and Rick,

Thanks for your prayers and continued concerns. We in that "just waiting" mode now, until Sheryl has the PT Scan next Tuesday and her consultation with the oncologist, either this Friday or perhaps postponed to after the PT Scan.

Today is "Cambridge Upgrade" day. I'll post a report tonight, after swapping out the receivers and doing some listening.

You two might find this a bit hard to believe, but as I type I am listening to "Reuben's Train" a bluegrass tune performed by The Arizona Smoke Review bluegrass band.

Best,

Art

Cambridge CXR120 Implementation Report:

Incorporating the Cambridge CXR120 into my audio-only system proved to be a bit more of a challenge than expected. Learning how to use the non-intuitive remote to work my way through the setup options required a couple of hours of effort.

But, that problem is now in the past and I am enjoying listening to my system with the CXR120 playing its part. The CXR120 is configured in a "6.0 system" setup, driving my SuperSat3 speakers as Fronts, my KLH 283A speakers as Surrounds and my Triton 7 speakers as Surround Backs. I am providing both analog and digital audio signals to the CXR120 from my DAC Magic Plus. I have these two alternate inputs set up to listen in either Dolby PLIIx Music mode or in All Channel mode. I used my SPL Meter to balance the speaker levels at my PLP.

I am pleased with the sound offered by the CXR120, as a replacement for the Denon Receiver. I am glad that I now have an "All Cambridge" audio path (DAC Magic, 851A Stereo Amp and CXR120 Receiver). No other equipment changes in store for me unless I add the References at some future point.

Sheryl will have one more diagnostic test on Tuesday 2-20-2018. Then, a major discussion will ensue regarding her diagnosis and possible treatment options, which range from doing nothing and watching to radiation/chemo and/or major surgery to remove the Thymoma and associated tissue. She has a relatively rare condition for which clinical data is not abundantly available.

We appreciate everyone's prayers and concerns. I will update status after we decide upon the course of action. Being able to enjoy great music is a morale booster for both of us.

Happy listening and good health to all,

Art
