Thanks Art for the update and we will keep praying!!!!!
Good health for all of us, and good tunes as well, yes music is a morale booster!!!
I did not understand why the SuperSat3s are in the front and the TOnes are not? And why the KLH are still in the system?
Did you totally separate the systems again, leaving the TOnes with the stereo amp and this system for multi-channel?
Anyway, I am sure this is not a final iteration, so I am not worried,. ha ha
God Bless,
Wayne

Hi Wayne,
Sorry for the confusion. My Triton Ones are still in the front on the floor and remain connected to the Cambridge 851A Stereo Amp. The Paradigm DSP 3400 Sub is also connected to the 851A. The DAC Magic drives both the 851A and the CXR120.
All speakers connected to the CXR120 and the 851A are part of the "audio-only" system. The 7.1 channel AV system is completely separate, speakers and amps.
The KLH 283A speakers will remain in the music system until I decide about the Reference speakers. If I buy the Reference speakers, the References will replace the Ones, the Ones will replace the KLHs. The Sevens and SuperSats will remain, creating a GE-Only speaker arrangement for my audio-only system.
Acquisition of the References remains a big ????.
Best,
Art

Update: I am still working with implementing my new Cambridge CXR120 7.2 AV Receiver into my audio-only system. I am using this unit as a 6.0 receiver. I used my SPL meter to balance the sound levels for all speakers in my system, including the 6.0 speakers and the 2.1 speakers connected to my Cambridge 851A Stereo Amp.
After listening to a number of recordings with the CXR120 in both surround-sound and all channel stereo modes, I have decided that I prefer all channel. Yesterday, I tried something new with my rear-side and back-rear speakers. I have angled the rear-side KLH 283A speakers to face inward toward each other and the back-rear Triton Sevens to face outward toward the side walls at about a 40 degree angle. With these positions, these speakers perform their room-filling duties without directly facing my PLP from the side or rear.
Initial impression is very favorable. Room-filling sound with no distractions from the sound appearing in front of my PLP from the Triton Ones and SuperSat 3s.
Tomorrow, I will balance the speakers again with my SPL for these new angles. More listening to follow....
Happy listening,
Art

Hey Bro Art, is this your cardio workout each day, moving speakers around?
I hope you are having fun with it, for sure it beats worrying all the time.
Still praying.
So,
So,
One thing I don't think you have ever mentioned, perhaps you are doing this and I just missed it.
Are you setting the delays from each speaker to your PLP? The time delays, so that all speakers' signals are reaching you at the same time? I am sure your processor has this function.
Just wondering if that helps or hurts based on the way you are moving speakers, changing angles, etc.
Keep us informed.
God bless,
Wayne

Hi Wayne,
Yes, my CXR120 has the capability to alter the delay settings. Thus far, I have not altered any of the delay settings. I will review that capability and consider adjusting the delay. Thanks for that suggestion.
I have found it interesting that I prefer the all-channel listening mode to any of the various surround sound modes I have sampled over all the many months I have been experimenting with my setup. When we watch movies with my 7.1 video setup, we appreciate the effects offered by surround sound. We watch with the processor set to Dolby DIIx Movie sound mode.
However, I am not much impressed with any surround sound music mode for 2-channel listening. If I were watching and listening to multi-channel music presentations, I might feel differently. But, I am listening to either monaural or 2-channel sources. With 2-channel sources, I find that I prefer the room-filling effects of all-channel listening. All-channel listening applies equally well when the music source is monaural, whereas surround-sound processing does not handle a monaural source well at all.
If I want to introduce a bit more spatial effect to all-channel listening, I can reverse the phase of one of the two sets of rear speakers - or both, if I choose to do so.
As we often say to one another, to each his or her own as we watch and listen.
Best,
Art

Hi, Art
You’re keeping busy!
The only surround mode I ever tried for 2 channel that to me improved on multi channel is the Dolby Surround that comes with Atmos firmware, and also upmixes to the height channels. It seems to do a good job of keeping the soundstage in front but also bringing the sound fully into the room. Effectiveness varies with vintage of the recording. It seems to be able to do it more effectively with more recent recordings. Don’t know how it would handle mono stuff.
Whatever works for each of us...
