Oh, I meant to ask you Rick, didn't you say a while back that you had bought a power cord from Frank at Signal Cables?
If so, how did you like it? I am guessing it was not that great, as you don't mention it.
How is the Heimdal breaking in?
Happy listening,
God Bless,
Wayne

Hi, Wayne

Yes I have a Signal Magic power cord. It's on the ATi 5 channel amp powering the fronts, center and surrounds. I guess I try power cords like some folks with tube gear roll tubes.

When I switched out the 2 channel NAD amp with the 5 channel ATi, I had an AntiCable Reference 3 on the NAD. The ATi has a different, 20 amp style termination plug in, so at first switched to an AntiCable Reference 3 with that termination. Seemed a tad bright, so I returned it and switched to an AntiCable Level 2: a little less bright but still on the bright side. So I tried a Signal Magic from Frank ($69, 10 gauge). I liked how that sounded and so there it stays. A little more mellow than the AntiCables, cleaner than the stock cord. A matter of listening preference probably. The effect of power cord changes on amps is not as pronounced as on sources/DAC's, but there nonetheless.

Re the Nordost Heimdall 2 which I put on the Marantz AVR just before leaving for Thailand, I just started doing some serious listening yesterday afternoon. It's been doing some break in while I was gone via Judy watching tv on the system. Played some new Blu-ray stuff to further break it in, then some favorite songs, then some Eagles and Roy Orbison Blu-ray stuff. I want to hear more, let in break in more, but as of now, I love it!!! Clarity without a hint of brightness, instruments sound so clean and real, voices "in the room" natural, dynamics just pop. Can't think of a thing I don't love about the sound quality I'm hearing. More later. The Nordost Blue Heaven on the Oppo and Heimdall on the Marantz combo is staying right there!!!!

Happy listening!

Rick

Exactly my experiences! The Heimdall took well over 60 hours to completely settle in. It's feeding my DAC. Love the sound.

At times I think there is still a slight edge to things, and I suspect this is upstream power. But it could also be some recordings. I listen to well recorded stuff, and I don't notice any issues.

Thanks Rick, so where in the hierarchy of power cords would you put the Audience from your listening experiences so far?
IF it is too soon to say, I will wait.
Happy listening,
God Bless,
Wayne

I agree on recording quality having an effect. The more revealing the speakers, the more noticeable sometimes the flaws. Garbage in, garbage accurately (and sometimes annoyingly) out.

But on well recorded stuff, love it!
