Hey Anthem, Not sure I have a "go to" in Jazz. I like lots of genres and listen to lots of music.
Recently I got a new car, with a decent sound system, so I put together a "road trip" playlist with all kinds of music in it, from "on the road again" to the White Stripes, Howlin' Wolf to Iggy Pop.
My on a desert island disk is probably Kind of Blue. But checking my Jazz playlist for most played songs I see Brian Setzer, Julie London, Tito Puente, Anouar Brahem (Astounding Eyes of Rita - well know audiophile disc not sure it's been mentioned here), Chet Baker, Branford Marsalis, through Tierney Sutton and even Fred Astaire. As I said lots of variation :-)

Miles Davis / Kind of Blue -- All Blues

Miles Davis is considered by most as the Greatest Jazz Musician of all time, not in my book. I've never been a hugh Miles Davis fan, I can listen to him but don't really appreciate him as much as John Coltrane.

With that being said, Kind of Blue is a crappy recording. Has anyone ever heard this recording on any format that would command a "5 Star" rating?
D-Sonic m3a-600m Mono > McIntosh MC152 > Primaluna ProLogue Premium Preamp > Oppo UDP205 > Decware ZLC > Triton Reference > Isoacoustics Gaia 2 > Canare 4S11 Speaker Cables > Audience Forte 3, Anticable L3 & Shunyata Venom PC's

Every great performance deserves an Audience!

You're most welcome, Pbgalvin, but the thanks should go to my local GET dealer. This was the album we played to demo various gear. Needless to say, this album is definitely a great reference disk. It truly allows the Tritons to strut their stuff! I'm glad to hear that somebody else is enjoying Birdland besides me!

Cheers,

T Cobe

Anthem,

I have this on CD and on a limited release LP and the distortion is prominent on both. It's truly too bad because it is a great album from a musical performance stand point. Sound quality is entirely different matter.

Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Charles Mingus, and Thelonious Monk seem to jazz royalty but there are certainly a lot of great musicians out there with some great albums. I think my favorite at this point is Mingus. Mingus Dynasty, Blues and Roots, Mingus Ah Um have been fantastic.

Thanks to everyone for posting what you have playing. It's great to have a resource to share music and discuss our systems. Keep them coming!

Cheers,

T Cobe

P.S. Undercurrent is on its way, Anthem.
