Hey Anthem,

I listened to the entire album in the car today on the way to and from work. As such, I didn't have a chance to look at the song names. In general, this is a great jazz album! I appreciate the reference. I'm going to have to play it on the GET system
To really appreciate the sound but it was good: even in my car.

Cheers,

T Cobe

HMMM. As T Cobe has pointed out earlier, sometimes some strange timing things occur on this thread. I saw that a new posting by T Cobe had appeared, and then when I look for it, I can't find find it. Are we overloading this thread of Anthem's?

I hope not.

Okay folks, I've found a real winner! The Postman delivered a Bluebird First Edition of The Bridge by Sonny Rollins. This is one fine sounding disc! The first track, Without A Song is phenomenal. The instruments really do sound like they are in my room. The transparency is out of this world and there are spatial cues galore. This is not a recording with every instrument dead center. The recordings are open and airy without the hiss. This is definitely a new reference recording for me. If I'm being picky, I'm not sure the bass is quite as accurate and rich as Mingus Dynasty, but that's a small gripe. If you're a jazz fan, this is a must have!

Cheers,

T Cobe

Andy McKee Quintet / Sound Roots (1997) -- Top Hat

Elevator music or not...a great song. If this is what they play on elevators, I may never get off. ;)

Yup...Sonny Rollins / The Bridge...Good Stuff.

Off topic - very nice interview of Sandy Gross in this month's Stereophile.

The money quote: David Lander - "It's generally agreed that the Tritons also perform better than comparably priced speakers. Will that continue?"
Sandy: "I certainly hope it will continue!"

On topic - enjoying the horn on David Sanborn's Here & Gone.

Off topic - a friend visited last night, hadn't seen him in a couple of years (lives in NJ and I live in MA). He's into music, plays keyboard, has been in bands, records his own electronic music etc. So played him some tunes. He played the right tracks and listened to the right stuff (i.e. let's hear what a sax sounds like, let's hear guitar, let's rock).

He said he was afraid to ask how much - when I told him he said he was pleasantly surprised and said he's getting a pair. The Triton 1s certainly sound more expensive than they are :-)
