Miles Davis / Birth of the Cool (1949) -- Move
This sounds a wee bit dated...ok, very much dated. It's not something I play on a regular basis, but an occasional listen is a "Good Thing".

Maynard Ferguson & Big Bop Nouveau / Brass Attitude ( 1998) -- Milk of the Moon
This arrangement displays Maynard's romantic nature...Sal Giorgianni on tenor sax.

Hey, Anthem
Your collection of jazz is extraordinary. I keep wondering if you have a dedicated storage facility for all the CD's you have collected!
I'd love for you to describe your "musical journey" from your youth. Has it always been jazz? Any rock? Soft rock? Pop, Classical?
I've listened to all sorts of music/styles.. Neil Diamond, ABBA, Beegees, Roy Orbison, Country (Brooks and Dunn, Toby Keith..), Eagles, Eric Clapton, Leonardd Cohen, classical..., and yes jazz, from your many postings.
I guess what I always listen for is "does it move me?"
I can say that with GEt speakers playing stuff,, the "does it move me" equation gets wider and wider. Stuff that is boring when the sonics are muted and dull becomes just gorgeous when every nuance, every tone, every gorgeous note is properly played.
I keep thinking of T Cobe's thread "Nowhere to Hide", (I think I got that right), about exploring how great speakers can play everything, good or bad. Well, I can say I vote for speakers that can play everything. As much as "average" speakers can convey a small piece of the musical experience and "hide" poorly recorded music, the reward for having fully revealing speakers is just too much.
Please share with us, Anthem, your perspective on what works for you and how it may have evolved!
Happy listening!
Rick

Gee whiz Rick...don't you know that Bro Anthems brain starts hurting when he has to think.
When I was in high school, I listened to mainly hard rock. Ted Nugent, Grand Funk Railroad, Aerosmith, Steppenwolf, Foghat, and as much Kiss as I could get my hands on. As the years progressed my tastes got heavier. Pantera, Mercyful Fate, Metallica...the harder the better. The volume knob seemed to control me, the louder the better. Knock, knock, knock...who is it? The Police...that got old real quick. About 20 years ago I got a taste of Smooth Jazz. Gerald Albright, Najee, and George Howard got the ball rolling. In the last year or two my tastes have veered toward bebop and more traditional jazz...Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, etc. I really don't listen to rock anymore. On occasion I hear a rock band I like, but that's as far as it goes...wouldn't put it in my collection. I can't stand Country, or 99% of Rapp. Don't care for Opera, but can very much tolerate Classical. I love spiritual, especially sonlifetv.com.
So there you have it Rick...Anthems musical journey. Don't be surprised tomorrow if I post more Jazz selections, I have four new ones waiting in the wings...Charles Mingus / Dynasty being one of them.

Thanks for sharing, Anthem. I hope your head doesn't hurt too bad. I look forward to your thoughts on Mingus Dynasty. I'm confident you'll enjoy it, though I'm not sure it will be exactly your cup of tea.
My only remaining question is what 1% of rap music do you like??? I'm a fan of some as well but don't usually post when I do listen as there doesn't seem to be much interest here. I broke Nelly's Country Grammar out this weekend. The SQ was pretty good and it inspired an impromptu dance party. Well, it made the little lady dance, anyway.
Cheers,
T Cobe

311 Soundsystem -- Freeze Time
Good solid rap/metal. Also good, Rage Against the Machine, P.O.D, and The Beastie Boys -- No Sleep Till Brooklyn.
