I first heard Alison Porter on "The Voice" in her audition singing Roy Orbison"s "Blue Bayou". Loved it!! And I haven't liked most singer's attempts to try Orbison songs. Even other singers have called him "the voice". Almost nobody even tries Roy's songs because it's so hard to even come close to what was his amazing vocal range. Well, I posted her audition song earlier, and yes she killed it. Daring stuff. This is her latest performace, doing a Janis Joplin song.

I would LOVE to see her try a Roy Orbison classic, like "Crying". She's got the PIPES....

Rick,

I've been watching a bit of The Voice as well. Curly Sue has an amazing voice. I think she is my odds on favorite to win the season. This post is good but not her best performance this season. She has such a powerful voice! The only thing missing is a bit of branding. I'm just not sure where she would fall in terms of type of music. The rest of the field has a few stand outs as well. A lot of talent this season.

Cheers,

T Cobe

Wow, Anthem!!!! 122 pushups!! If you did that while listening to Charles Mingus/soft jazz, just imagine how many you could do while listening to hard rock!!

Happy listening!

122 continuous push ups is quite impressive, indeed! Nice hustle, Anthem. Rick may be on to something though. You should try turbo charging your workout with a little big hair band rock.

Tonight I'm listening to Mingus Dynasty again; however, this time it's on CD. I enjoyed the record so much that I purchased a CD version for my car and to load on my iTunes. If that's not a product testimony, I don't know what is.

The CD version sounds clean but I think the LP sounded better. I'll do some more critical listening later but I believe the instruments sounded more "live" on vinyl and the bass had a much richer tonal quality. Don't get me wrong, the disc still sounds very good. This album is like an onion, or an ogre: it has layers!

Cheers,

T Cobe
