At the risk of being later proven incorrect, it appears that, at last, I have arrived at my permanent speaker configuration and interconnection arrangement. I am enjoying the pure musical sound of my GE speaker array - especially my Triton Ones connected with just speaker wires. I am using my two external subs to add bass when listening at very low volume levels - otherwise they are turned off. And, they are also turned off when I listen to choral music, regardless of volume level.

My external subs are shared with my movie sound system.

My Triton Ones and Sevens remain oriented with the rear mounts lower than the front mounts, resulting in a upward tilt to the speakers.

Nothing else of an audio nature to report at this time.

Happy listening to all,

Art

Update on Sheryl;

We visited Duke Medical and their head of thoracic surgery on Tuesday April 3. Sheryl is now under the care of this Duke physician.
Consultation resulted in a scheduled surgical biopsy by this physician on Monday April 16 at Duke Medical. Pathology will be done on tissue samples while she is in surgery. Pathology results will dictate further plan.

We expect to be at Duke for a couple of days, then return home - depending upon further plan development.

More later after she has had the surgical biopsy and results/plan are known.

Thanks to everyone for your concerns and prayers.

OK Folks,

I have come up with another "improvement" to my arrangement. This change has improved both my Music-Only" and my "Movie-Only" Systems.

I have connected the Sub-Woofer Output from my "Movie-System" AV Receiver to the LFE inputs of my Triton One Speakers.

The Speaker Inputs on my Triton Ones remain connected to my "Music-System" Cambridge Stereo Amplifier. The Triton One bass level controls are set to about the 2:00 PM position to support my music system. I have adjusted the Sub-Woofer Level in the AV Receiver to provide appropriate bass when LFE signals are transmitted.

I can get away with this dual connection scheme because I never use the Music and Movie Systems at the same time.

My two external subs are connected in the Music-Only System and are adjusted to provide bass augmentation at low music volume levels. They are turned off for normal room volume listening or when choral-only music is being played.

I am still evaluating this arrangement, but, so far, I am pleased. Lot's of bass for Videos using the wonderful Triton One Bass Section and no impact on music listening when the Cambridge is in charge of the Triton Ones.

I checked with GE Support to be sure that there would not be any hidden problems with this dual-connection arrangement so long as I did not have both systems active at the same time.

Happy listening,

Hi Rick,

Possibly, but don't hold your breath. This innovation is a way for me to use my two external subs to augment music bass at very low listening levels without having to find suitable compromise settings for their use as movie LFE subs as well.

I was delighted to discover that I could use the Triton One bass sections independently for movie bass and that I could retain my elevated Triton One bass level settings by reducing the sub-woofer level in my AV Receiver.

If I do add the References at a later time, the Ones will remain in my Music System. If my Altec Lansing Boleros give up the ghost, I would consider moving my Triton Sevens to serve as Movie Fronts - or possibly moving my SuperSat 3s to the Movie Front locations.

But, my nearly-60-year-old Altecs seem to be indestructible. I've never heard of other speakers of that age retaining their cone structures intact.

Best,

Art
