I REALLY hope some of you will try this music, it sounds superb on my Ones, I can only imagine how it would sound on your big References:
I LOVE the sound of a well recorded cello, especially when it digs rather deep and growls. Some of that here:
Some of you may have noticed that I have been on a Rachmaninov (or Rachmaninoff) spree lately.
I have been thoroughly enjoying the Ivan Fischer Budapest Festival Orch. recording I downloaded in Hi Res DSD Symphony #2 and Vocalise. Terrific music and sound.
Well, I was reading about this cellist, Johannes Moser (I have one of his CDs already that I really enjoy) described by Gramophone as "one of the finest among the astonishing gallery of young virtuoso cellists" and by the LA Times as a musician who "...connects with the audience in a way that only great artists do" [got that from Amazon] He is all that!!!
He and pianist, Andrei Korobienikov, who is equally as good a musician if you ask me, teamed up to record Rachmaninov, Prokofiev and a little bit from Scriabin for Pentatone records. VERY Russian music.
This is a superbly recorded SACD, or DSD file (I have not heard it in surround sound yet) where the cello and piano are so natural sounding it is incredible. The Prokofiev in the beginning is a little modern for me, but enjoyable. Then comes the Rachmaninov, which has passages that almost bring me to tears, so beautiful, lyrical, yearning, reaching, longing music. WOW!!!!!
Then a version of Vocalise by Rach. which I have come to love from the orchestral version on the other SACD, is rich and wonderful, though different here.
Then perhaps my favorite on this disc, Prokofiev had transcribed his Cinderella piece for cello and piano himself, they play it here, WOW, STUNNING!!!!!
The disc is rounded out by some Scriabin which was not my favorite.
I downloaded this in both stereo and multi channel from Native DSD music, but you can buy it from Amazon on a SACD.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Wonderful music, that sounds rich, rare, powerful and lovely.
God Bless,
Wayne

EAR CANDY DELUXE!!!!!
I just downloaded a DSD file at 128 fs of the Aeon Trio, "Elegy" and am thrilled by it. I don't know how to describe it, so I will quote from a review I read:
Hanging delicately together by a shining silver thread, Aeon Trio’s music ebbs and flows from the speakers like rippling water…
Playing with a delicacy and subtlety rare in an age dominated by in your face, rapid fire rap lyrics and heavy metal’s dense riffage, Maya Fridman, Atzko Kohashi and Franz Van Der Hoeven have crafted pieces and reimagined classics for an unspecified Elegy.
‘Elegy’ though, is more of a description of the overall emotional quality of these pieces, rather than an exact definition.
Painful shades of resigned sadness, faded greys and off-whites, these are the colours of Elegy. Resignation not to the sadness, more so, a realisation that this is the way things are. Now and evermore.Atzko’s quietly dissonant jazz chords add teasing hints of a deeper darkness to Maya’s mournful bowed cello lines on Lamento. While on Blues For Maya, Franz’s double bass lines give the piece the legs to soldier on. As musicians, this trio are not merely virtuosos. They are impeccable.
Like all the best players, Fridman, Kohashi and Van Der Hoeven understand the importance of breathing space. They each keep their own instrument’s parts suitably sparse as to give the others’ room to move. The end result is 13 pieces of perfectly complimentary yet contrasting instrument lines.
While the pace of the album is noticeably subdued, especially evident on the Trio’s version of Ornette Coleman’s Lonely Woman, to criticise Elegy for it’s consistently mellow pace would be to miss the point.
While the wild and frantic improv of the free jazz maestros is more immediately arresting, it’s also off-putting for many.
But Elegy, unlike the dismissal of free jazz by the ill-informed, could never be cast aside as mere “noise.”
As a result, rather than grabbing one by the lapels and shaking them for their attention, Aeon Trio have made a record that lure the listener in with beckoning finger. A tearful siren’s song.
An elegy without words. Yet, through the human qualities of these masters’ playing, images and, indeed, words, come cascading through the mind. Without such niceties as a powerful beat, catchy hooks or lyrics, Aeon Trio’s debut album is remarkably breathtaking in its scope.
…And the music flows on, the ripples slowly making their way to the shoreline. Let’s hope that someone, is paying attention.

This is from HiFi Pig magazine
This is available on CD from Amazon, but I got a Hi Res file on Native DSD and WOW, oh WOW it is incredible sounding!!!!
This is one of the most natural sounding recordings of cello, piano and bass I have ever heard!!!!!
I know some don't like to pay for music, but I for one, feel like this is some of the best money I ever spent and I hope everyone involved in this marvelous work of art gets to eat well tonight!!!!!
Happy Listening,
God Bless,
Wayne

So, my home theater system is sounding better than ever before, and I still need to do a LOT of tweaking, can make it better.
When listening for what is going on with my system, I need the best musical source possible, so I pulled out some Hi Res music.
I was listening to and loving the Tchaikovsky 6 pictured below, it is a DSD SACD and was playing in DSD Direct on my Oppo, WOW it sounded so good, so smooth, I guess the word "analog" sounding comes to mind, as opposed to having any digital artifacts and glare. I had decided this finally in my mind, DSD just plain old sounds better than even the best FLAC recordings.
BUT I pulled out a Blu-ray music disc I mentioned on this forum before (as I had the Tch 6), I put on Remote Galaxy, also pictured below, the Ashkenazy led, Philharmonia Orchestra super disc. It gives choices of DTS MA 5.1 (24/192) the one I play, or 7.1 (24/96) or Stereo (24/192) or Auro 3D 9.1 (24/96).
So I am listening to this in 5.1 as I want the highest resolution and those 2 rear channels are not that important in this case, I guess. And I decide that my previous decision proclaiming DSD the winner is JUST NOT TRUE. This 24/192 FLAC sounds equally awesome, pure, smooth, and "analog" or musical. There is no digital glare, but tracks 2 and 3 feature a solo clarinet, and everyone knows how piercing the clarinet can sound in the wrong hands, and these are NOT the wrong hands, it sounds fantastic!!!! But the sound is sharp and clean, has a biting edge to it as a clarinet always does in the upper registers.
So, I call it a tie, so far to my ears.
Remote Galaxy really deserves to be on your play list for hearing the best of what a surround sound system can beautifully play.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED once again!!!!
And it is really good classical (though new classical) style music, high brow of the best sort, wonderful.
God Bless,
Wayne
