Rick,

That's a tough call. Using LFE from your T1s and a SSXXL would be more than enough LFE and you would have plenty of dispersion with 3 subs. I'm in a similar situation and would be curious to hear a response from our friendly neighborhood Moderator and other forum members. My assumption is that the SSXXL is louder and dips lower than 2 FF5 subs...

Cheers,

T Cobe

Rick and T. Cobe
I am under the same impression. For playing the LOWEST bass, I would assume (since I have not had the pleasure of hearing it) the XXL will play the lowest. IF it is just good bass dispersion and smoothest bass all around, then probably 2 FF 5s should sound smoother.
I have the one FF 5 in the back center of my room and it is hard to integrate really well.
Wish I could help more, have fun finding out.
God Bless, Wayne

one supersub may due the trick with a little help from peq. However, every room is different and it is ultimately up to the listeners threshold of "that's good enough" to stop buying more subs, room treatments, etc.

Or throw caution to the wind just get two :P
Play it loud.

Emotiva UMC-200
Parasound A21
Parasound A23
Triton 5 L/R
SuperCenter XXL

Wayne,

Please don't take this th wrong way, but you are truly an outlier from a statistical standpoint when it comes to bass. You have 4 active Triton towers AND a FF5 and your bass is still not where you want it...? I would say there is something wrong with you setup, room, or your expectations...

I can say that with my T1s up front and my single sub behind my PLP, I get plenty of dispersion. Rick "should" get similar results but you're definitely correct: everyone's setup and preferences are different. The current standard for smoother response and better dispersion is two subwoofers. I haven't read anywhere that more than that is better or worse other than the GET demos with the T1s and T2s.

I wonder if you're not getting some cancellation in your setup. That's one issue about the active Triton's; there is no phase adjustment for the subwoofers. I'll admit I'm not that well versed on the topic.

Cheers,

T Cobe
