I had a question regarding the difference between the Twos and Threes. I was wondering if there's any truth to what I'm about to say.

From my experience (and experience alone), it seems like D'apolito arrays require a bit more precision in their placement to achieve optimal imaging. It seems like the arrangement in the Threes allows for a bit more leniency in placement (particularly toe-in) than the array of the Twos, although I suspect that the Twos have a fuller midrange regardless of positioning.

Is there truth to that, or is there something else that's led me to perceive this phenomenon?

Hi Dark - you are 100% correct. It is an issue that has been pinned to these designs by critical listeners over the years and can overwhelm the positives you get from the D'appolito array. The "fuller midrange", as you describe it, is one of those benefits, as is power handling, overall output level, dynamics and improved off-axis response.

I get what you are saying about some of the advantages of the T2s and am sure you are right. And I have heard that perhaps the T3s might image better because they are a simpler design, less drivers.
But you guys left me a little bit partly cloudy on what you were saying.
In you guys' opinions, do the T2s image as well as the T3s, but are just harder to "dial in" harder to position and get them right? Or the T3s image better, but the T2s have other, offsetting benefits that make up for and improve on the sound of the T3s?
I know, I should know these things, but I don't. I own both a pair of T2s and T3s. And one day, in the not too distant future, Lord willing and the Creek don't rise, I will actually be able to get them to my house and set up and listen to them!
Meantime, I am trying to figure out which pair I will put in my home theater and which in the living room, in a more mellow, but great soundstaging/imaging, tube driven setup?????

Triton Twos image just as well, just takes a little more work to dial them in to the room. Primary difference is in headroom, if you listen at modest volumes there will be virtually no difference between the two once set up properly in the room.

Followup question then, please.
Between a modest sized home theater, reasonably live, but we can play LOUD and ROCK in this room, not just movies.....
and a large living room, with HIGH ceiling, also live, but we want polite music here, vocals and pop/folk/lite rock, and this one will hopefully have a tube amp with a less power but will hopefully sound like the singer is right there in the living room, blow the skirt up with quality, not necessarily volume..............
T2s in which room? T3s in which room? Would you give the most power to the T2s or T3s? Tubes with T2s or T3s?????
Any suggestions?????
OK, there is a good chance I will haul them around and try both in both places, IF my back holds out. But IF I sets them up the right way the first time and I am thrilled with things, they just might stay right there.
