Rick,

Thanks for the advice on the best demo films for Atmos/DTS-X. I finally have my HTR-7000 speakers and will be installing them this week. I’ll be sure to start with Kong and Deepwater Horizon. I’m looking forward to the more immersive experience.

Cheers,

T Cobe

Have fun installing Bro T. Cobe, I hope it comes out looking and sounding great.
I watched Wonder Woman again last night, had not seen it is 3D. Great film and BASS to die for, 3D was great in a few scenes where they went for it, but overall, not so much.
Have no idee what it would be like in DTS-X or ATMOS, but probably pretty good too. I just watched it last night in 5.1 and it rocked my world, patching up the walls and foundation AGAIN.
Have fun,
God Bless,
Wayne

Have fun with Atmos, T!

Let us know how it works out and sounds. I think you’ll like the upmixing of heights via DTS:X Neural and Dolby Surround in other formats also.

Happy listening!

Hey, T

Wayne is right about Wonder Woman. Got it and played it in Atmos after my posts about Deepwater Horizon and Kong. Amazing in Atmos also.

Also just got Dunkirk, another Wayne recommendation. Not in Atmos or DTS:X, but I’ll up mix via DTS Neural to include heights and report on this thread. Wayne already described the fantasticSQ. I expect the height upmixing to be amazing also.

SO many offerings coming out now in well mixed Atmos especially, including music Blu-rays. You picked a good time to do this, T! And even watching tv, listening to Surround upmixed to include heights...
Watched lots of football yesterday. National anthems, Air Force flyovers, fireworks plus crowd noises all in immersive “l’m there, and that B1 just roared right over me!” realism.

Still lovin’ It, and I think you will too.

Just what are goosebumps worth? No idea, but I get them, a lot, with GEt’s. Listened to music this afternoon in 9 channel, heights included, and couldn’t stop.

Have fun!

Rick

Thanks, Rick! I began the installation process today but ran into a few issues. Since the weather was a bit chilly, I opted to enjoy my theater versus going shopping. I don’t have another day off for two weeks, so it may be a little bit before I get the HTR-7000s mounted and wired.

I’ll keep Wonder Woman on the short list for demo material. I’m really looking forward to the addition of the height channels! I have no doubts that the improvement will be significant.

Cheers,

T Cobe

Alright folks, the HTR-7000s are installed! It turned out to be a bigger task than I had anticipated, but it was totally worth it! The HTR-7000s blend seamlessly with my Aon 3 surrounds and the results are quite impressive. I tried Wonder Woman yesterday and wasn’t getting a lot from the height speakers. I followed up with Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation and the results were similar.

Today I updated the firmware on my Anthem AVM60 and played around with all my settings. Immediately after playing with the settings I served up IT. Wow! Right from the opening scene, the height speakers were fully engaged! This latest version of the Stephen King novel is much better than previous outings. The film itself and the PQ were somewhere between a 3.5 and 4 out of 5. The sound quality on the other hand was reference! Dynamic sound, good voice capture, great effects and LFE, and the Atmos mix was amazing! There was so much coming from the height speakers. The sound was completely immersive and strongly supported the suspense of the film. This is definitely demo quality!

I can’t wait to go back and watch some more Atmos/DTS-X films now that I have my system fully setup. Well, maybe not fully. I do feel like I’d like a bigger subwoofer that is capable of moving a lot more air than what I currently have. I have a large theater area! Thanks for starting this thread, Rick! I completely agree on everything you’ve said about the immersiveness of the height channels. Even television is much more fun now, but more on that later.

Cheers,

T Cobe
