Now this is cohesive while still going freestyle (IMO). Musical performance and SQ are top notch on this one. 4.5/5 for both. Thanks for the reference, Anthem. I guess I'm officially a Redman fan. I might as well just add a bunch of his albums to my wish list and be done with it.

Cheers,

T Cobe

P.S. It's Christmas early here this weekend! Jazz at the Pawnshop, Rhapsodies in Living Stereo, and three more Reference Recordings including Bolero, Big Band Basie, and Pictures at an Exhibition.

Hank Mobley / Soul Station (1960) -- Dig Dis

Hank Mobley, what can I say? He plays a great sax, but nothing really special here. His sax was super glued to left of center through out the entire cd, as we're the rest of the instruments. Another Blue Note Rudy Van Gelder Edition...Sonically very good, with no evidence of distortion or razziness in the sax. Recommended, but not a Showstopper.

T Cobe: Ornette Coleman, Joshua Redman, Kenny Burrell...what's gonna become of you? All Good Stuff...Enjoy the ride!

Every great performance deserves an Audience!

Hey, T Cobe

I really like this! Pensive, smooth, such a breathy presentation of the sax sound...

As you said on an earlier post to the Power Cord thread, "at the risk of stirring up a hornet's nest":

First, GORGEOUS music, GORGEOUSLY presented (as on a GEt system) can just reach in and tug at my emotions. When I listen to some jazz (You described some free jazz as sounding like musicians warming up), I keep waiting for my right, emotional brain to get engaged, and when it doesn't, my left, logical brain starts asking, "OK, where is this track going? It's meandering without a direction???? Where's the beef?"

I do get taken in when the instruments themselves are so beautifully played. I just wish I understood/appreciated more about what jazz is all about. Anthem you have tried to describe to me your "journey" into jazz. I'm trying.....

Joshua Redman Elastic Band / Momentum (2005) -- Riverwide

This is another great Redman cd. Very dynamic with lots of detail.
T Cobe/Rick: take this one for a spin and see what you think.

Thus far, the only Redman cd I haven't cared for is "Wish"...you guys might like it.

Keiko Matsui / No Borders (1990) -- The wind and the wolf

Keiko Matsui on keyboards and the Shakuhachi flute...dig this tune.
The wife really enjoys this music.
