Uncle Rick: So you and Aunt Judy are venturing back to Texas next month.
I suppose you'll be wanting your "Twins" back.
It will be hard to give them up, but just say the word, and I'll get them on their way...it's been fun.

So Glad Aunt Judy has graduated from the walker to a cane...dancing by Thanksgiving, maybe?

Hey, Anthem

From "Uncle Rick" :P

Re the "Twins", yes if they arrived back around 9/16 that would be perfect.. hope you enjoyed them! P.S check your PM's for more details. I will be ordering a third Anti-Cable for the NAD amp to arrive about then also, based on T Cobe's experience using one on his amp.

Can't wait to fire up the GEt's.. have all the discs I've ordered in the meantime to bring with me...Beethoven first.

Happy listening!

Rick

Packers versus Chiefs Preseason Football! I have a few new SACDs to try out later once the game starts to lose interest. Kenny Burrell and Ornette Coleman are just itching to go for a spin...

Cheers,

T Cobe

P.S. Rick , I felt like the Lvl 3 AC made the biggest difference on my amp. I look forward to hearing your impressions.

Listening to Midnight Blue on an Austrian made SACD through my 2-channel setup during a bit of a lull in the action in the game. As Anthem said, this is very near reference and certainly a great demo disk. The SACD may well have a bit more nuance than the Best of Blue Note stereo version of the recording. Listening a little louder than normal.

Cheers,

T Cobe

I agree, I got this after your advice a few weeks ago, and this has become one of my favorites even over the several Miles Davis MoFi SACDs.

I lacked a lot Miles, so have been doing quite a bit of catch up but nearly complete. My roommate can do without a lot of the later, more experimental Miles, but she loves this Kenny Burrell. Latest Miles album is "In A Silent Way"

John Coltrane / Coltrane -- Time Was

Roses are red violets are blue, I'm listening to my Triton's, how about you?

Coltrane sure knows his way around the Saxophone...to bad he died so young.

Every great performance deserves an Audience!

I'm finally getting around to The Shape of Jazz to Come by Ornette Coleman. The sound quality on this one is pretty good but clearly not as good as Midnight Blue. I tried playing the SACD layer through my Oppo and AVM-60 and my Emotiva 2-channel setup. I preferred the latter. The symbols were more open and airy and the bass had better tone. In general, the transparency and texture of the music was just better through my 2-channel setup. SQ is a 4/5 for me.

From an artistic stand point, I'm not sure I'm the biggest fan of free jazz. I enjoy a lot of the albums from this genre. Many sound cohesive but some other just sound like a bunch of musicians warming up and not working in concert together. To my ear, a great example of this is Miles Davis's Bitches Brew. It just seems too all over the place for me. This album had a bit of the erratic arrangements (or lack of), but the rest was pretty good. I'd give this a 4.5/5 from a performance stand point. If you are a fan of free jazz, it seems like a must own title.

Cheers,

T Cobe
