What's the 4th of July without the Boston Pops playing the 1812 Overture?



This video doesn't show it, but the 1812 Overture is traditionally the finale to the 4th of July concert on the Esplanade, and includes a huge fireworks display as the music is playing.

And, in about an hour, another shore dinner of lobster, steamed clams and corn on the cob.

Gotta love it.

World Saxophone Quartet / Rhythm and Blues (1988) -- I Heard That

Finishing up the day with a great band. On "I Heard That" the wife thinks it sounds gnarly, I think it sounds heavenly. I krank it up and she runs for cover.
Check out the ending...I give it a standing ovation everytime.

I'm between your wife's assessment of gnarly, and your description of heavenly. Good stuff, but I guess I'm still looking for the "hook".

Your collection of jazz, and your appreciation of the subleties of the music, is still beyond my novice appreciation level.

BUT, I really respect your level of understanding of the genre, and I WILL keep learning and listening. I am convinced that any form of music is internalized over time (witness the different forms around the world).

Keep em' coming, buddy! I keep learning..
