T Cobe,
Yeah, I like THUMP: too.
Brushes not so much, went back and listened to that track on Jesse Cook and you were right. Though your T1s must resolve better than my Twos, where it was not as noticeable.
I don't like the explicit lyrics. I just got Joe Bonamassa's "Blues of Desperation" which was OK, pretty good in a harder blues sorta way, but he drops the MF bomb at the end of one song, TOTALLY unnecessary IMHO. I hated that, and there is not as nastier word to me.
Hang in there boys, God Bless, Wayne
God bless the child that's got his own.

Jane Ira Bloom / Mental Weather (2008) -- First Thoughts/This Nearly Was Mine

The power finally came back on, got a chance to finish the rest of the cd.
There is a form of sophistication in the this music that many other genres of music just don't have. The simplicity of a solo soprano saxophone (First Thoughts/This Nearly was Mine)...Excellent, most Excellent.

NO F bombs here, nor will there ever be.

Great sounding track, Anthem. Sounds like a very good recording. Seems to be pretty transparent and have plenty of spatial cues. Playing this on tubes? I'm going to have to google Jane Ira Bloom.

Cheers,

T Cobe

Hey, Anthem

BTW, I agree on the F bombs...not needed. While I'm not in any way a fan of things like rap (I consder it urban semi-poetry more than music), what turns me off the most is the swearing.

Please give me a lesson in jazz.. (this is serious, no joking). The sophistication you speak of, when I, in my early jazz learning curve, think of jazz, phrases like "sometimes wandering", come to mind. Can you give me/us some feedback on what elements of the music most attract you? I seem to need some "toe tappin", good bass, signs of melody in jazz to get into it. Things that "hook me" in general about music are haunting melody, great dynamics, amazing bass, gorgeous phrasing, musical instruments that are played with emotion... I.E. some "hook" that just speaks to my right brain (the non Nordic half : ) and lets my emotions have some fun and to heck with the serious, logical left side of my brain (which then joins the fun anyway) .

What speaks to you in jazz, and how is it that jazz connects with that so well?

Thanks for the lesson/feedback!

Rick
