Thanks for the feedback. I'm still learning about this jazz stuff. Which track did you hear it on and what does it sound like? It seems like the sax levels are a bit high and there may be some distortion on Samba Triste. Is that the song you were referring to? Thanks for the teaching moment. I'm always looking to improve my critical listening.

Evaluating speaker wire again tonight. Back to the ultimate demonstration disc. I had to reseat the 18-7 wire as the connection was not good. Some of the wire insulation was in the binding post and limiting my contact of metal on metal. Details details. The difference was night and day. All the bass gains I had made with the Red Dawns have returned and the SQ is fantastic. This track is all about imaging and the 18-7 wire really seems to impact the focus as well as the bass, detail, depth, etc. I'm finding no downside at this point. This is definitely worth trying for $25. I'm considering this a temporary solution to mimic the Nordost speaker cables I will need to save up to purchase.

Hey TCobe :

Yup...Samba Trista is the track I noticed distortion/razziness in the sax...I tracked a couple of the other songs on the album, and didn't notice anything to unsual. Getz is a little slow paced for my tastes. Slow paced or not, it might be a good idea to have him in my collection. He would be perfect for a Sunday afternoon.

Roman

This is another great track. I suspected from the streaming version of this album that the CD would sound great and I'm not disappointed. On this track, the sax is on the left, guitar on the right, and percussion dead center. Every instrument has its own place in the soundstage and there are plenty of spatial cues and acoustics from the recording space. It sounds like a live performance.

I also received CDs by Thelonious Monk, Jaco Pastorius, and Joe Henderson today. I can't wait to listen to more but time is running short. I also received a Furman PST-8D today and am using it for my pre-amp and CD player. There's a bit of technology in his heavy duty power strip that I won't repeat from the marketing speak. All of that isn't as important as the sound and there does seem to be a modest improvement in that arena. Little by little...
