Hi Rick,

You doubt my "last rearrangement" claim????

O ye of little faith (and much experience)......

We shall see.............

Actually, I have made one other setup change. After reading several Ref reviews on the web, I was reminded that Sandy sometimes recommends that Tritons be placed as far apart as possible, wall proximity notwithstanding, that they be toed in to point to a center position in front of the PLP, and that they be tilted forward to point the tweeter downward toward the listener's ears in the PLP.

So, today, I shortened the screw lengths on the front of the bases of my Ones and raised the screw lengths on the back of the bases to cause a forward tilt. I also moved the Ones as far apart as possible in my room and toed them in to point to a spot about two feet in front of my PLP. I am now listening to evaluate this change. I'll report results.

Best,

Art

Hey, Art

I’d never expect you to stop experimenting! I think it’s in your genes. What caught my attention was the last pre Ref configuration comment, suggesting maybe a string of T Ref experiments may be in the offing....

Whatever comes up next, keep on keeping on enjoying what you’re doing, and keep us posted and entertained!

Hi Rick,

Well, anything is possible. For the time being, I am assessing the changes in sound dispersion offered by tilting the Ones and increasing their toe-in.

More later..........

Because I am using 1/4"x 20 round-head bolts in place of the spikes, it is easy for me to vary the length of these bolts to experiment with different tilt angles for my Ones. Simultaneously, I am also experimenting with toe-in angles.

Current setup:

1. 1.5" bolts mounted to front of base. 3" bolts mounted to rear of base. With approximately 1/2" thread penetration into the threaded sockets in each base, I have a 1.5" tilt from front to back with a minimum 1" front elevation from my tile floor.

2. I have the speakers toed in such that the line of intersection is a point about 2.5 feet in front of my head when seated in my PLP. The speakers are about 11 feet apart and about 10 feet from my PLP head position.

Just beginning to listen. Initial impression is that speakers are noticeably less identifiable as the sound source. I attribute this result to the toe-in angle, rather than to the tilt.

More later....

Comments invited.

Hi, Art

My fronts are 11’ apart and 11’ from the PLP. I have mine toed in such that left front seems to point at left ear, and right front at right ear. I.E. they intersect right in back of my head. I like the soundstage I get with that set-up.

You may want to try various toe-in angles. I suspect that moving them further apart played a big role also.

Happy listening!

Rick

Hi Rick,

Your setup is similar to mine, except that you are a bit further from your speakers. I have never had my Ones this far apart - they are very close to my walls (less than 2 feet away). I was immediately taken with the change in the soundstage. Not only is it wider (expected result) but, with the speakers toed in to intersect in front of my PLP, the soundstage seems more "seamless" and I cannot detect either speaker even if I look directly at one or the other as I listen. It may be that this setup is providing me with a first-time experience of having the sound "hang in the air".

I'm not sure what role, if any, the 1.5" tilt is playing, but, for now, I'll just leave it in place.

My "secondary audio system" is doing a nice job of adding room ambiance. Overall effect is that sound is suspended in air in front of me, but within a "live room".

Interesting.........
