I am new to this forum so if I have this in the wrong place please forgive me. I have just purchased the Triton 5s and the Super Center XXL to replace the XL and the Triton 7's, which I put with another system in a different room. My room is an open concept. I have 13 foot ceilings and hardwood floors. I know my room is very reflective. My speakers are on a wall that is angled somewhat. The TV and entertainment center are on the flat part of the wall. My speakers unfortunately are not. One has part of the wall behind it but that wall has about a 30 degree angle to it and just above the speaker is an opening to my kitchen with a granite countertop. The other speaker unfortunately does not have the wall behind it, it sits just outside the wall. The wall I am speaking of separates the kitchen from our listening room. I know not the ideal setup but that is what we have to work with it. I have a JBL Synthesis 5 channel power amp and a Denon 4311CI. I have a JL Audio E112 sub. When we ran odyssey it set them to large and full ban with no crossover. The center was set to small crossed last 60. When we had had the 7's set up we ran the cross at 60 and set them to small. With this setup we feel feel the punch of the sub in our back. With the new setup we can hear the sub and it is full but the punch in our back is not the same. Is this because the 5's and the center are making the bass more even through our room? We worked with the phase on the sub and a sound meter and in two main listening positions the level is the same (80db) and in the two positions to the left the sub rumble is a db higher. What is the recommendation from Sandy on the 5's when it comes to Large and small and what is the crossover recommendations? We love the sound of the 5's. We hear things that we never heard before but I think the bass needs to warm up and needs little break in time because it is a little weak but that could be my room as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Audyssey got it wrong, we'd suggest turning that and all associated EQ off to start. See Sandy's setup tips on our website. Set to small, if movie system, 80Hz crossover.

Welcome to the forum! As I understand your current set-up with the T5's set as large/full band, unless you have bass settings in the Denon on "enhanced bass/double bass" (not usually recommended), the only bass signal that would be going to your JBL sub would be the .1/LFE channel output. The crossover from the center set at 60HZ would be going to the T5's, set as large (and of course with the T5's as large, there would be no crossover from those channels to the sub either).

No doubt the T5's are generating more bass than the T7's did, and can be played as large speakers. Powered Tritons (1,2, and 3) are usually recommended to be set as large since they have their own built in sub. With the T5, they can be played as large, or, if an external sub is available (your JBL), an option to help out with the bass is to set the T5's as small and cross them to the sub (maybe in the 40-60 HZ range), and see how you like that. There is no right or wrong setting. It's more about what pleases your ears most. I would guess that lots of folks with T5's and external subs set the T5's as small and cross them to the subs.

Another question: how did the set-up sound with the T5's as large before you ran AUDYSSEY? Sometimes AUDYSSEY doesn't "make things better".

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the GET refresh! I think I may be doing the same as you eventually and moving GET gear to other rooms as I upgrade. It would be nice to have a GET shopping spree to equip every room in the house.

I agree with Moderator Dude and Rick. You need to route more bass to your sub(s). Full range is probably a bit much for the T5s and SCXXL unless you're playing music. Let that JL sub flex a little more muscle in support of your low end. I would calibrate your center and towers separately.

To get your crossover settings dialed in on your SCXXL, I'd recommend a Blu-Ray with good vocals and preferably some deep voices. Pick a scene with a lot of vocals and use that scene over and over after adjusting you crossover frequency. I'd recommend starting at 80 Hz as Moderator Dude has indicated and work your way down 10 Hz at a time until you find the sound you like best. I keep my SCXL at 70 Hz. Repeat the process for you towers using a bass heavy action scene. In the end, your settings shouldn't be too different from what you had with the T7s and SCXL, though it will sound better as you have already stated.

There really are no hard and fast rules for these settings. There are so many variables that effect sound. As you have illuded to already, room acoustics play a big part. Listening preferences and amplifier quality will also effect what levels sound best in your setup. In the end, what matters most is how you like the sound. A few pictures of your space may be more helpful if you're looking for advise on room acoustics. Good luck getting everything dialed in!
