Well, it's been a productive day. I braved the icy roads and picked up my amp when UPS opened their doors this morning. I made it back safe and sound!

I hooked up the amp right away when I got home and gave it a quick demo. Initially it sounded a bit more detailed but a bit thin. I left everything running and went out to roast 3 pounds of coffee. My Dad joined me in roasting and then we had a listen to some music. He has been into audio for quite some time and has a good ear. He felt I had everything setup well after listening to some Miles Davis, Bill Evans, and Macy Gray. I think the ambiance on Stripped by Macy Gray sold him on the room acoustics. But Bill Evans was also sounding stellar.

I'm jest getting settled back in the home theater after seeing him off and I'm going to watch Sully. It's in Dolby Atmos, so I should be able to assess how the new XPA Five sounds. The previews were already presenting vocals with a bit more body and their was a more open airy sound. I'm thinking that the Gen 3 will be a bit closer to the Anthem MCA 525 I demoed at my local GET dealer. Fingers crossed. I'll let you know how Sully sounds and may throw in Mission Impossible Rogue Nation to really run this amp through its paces...

Cheers,

T Cobe

P.S. I was not able to put any coffee in the chili yesterday due to one of my guests having a seizure disorder. It still turned out very good. I'll try the coffee next go round, Wayne. Thanks again for the tip!

Need to take it down a notch tonight after all the excitement yesterday. With the Wife gone for a few weeks, I've moved the furniture in the theater around and now my PLP is dead center between my Tritons. What and improvement!!! The vocals and guitar are locked in space between my T1s and the sound stage is quite generous on this LP.

Cheers,

T Cobe

Thanks, Pbgalvin!

Good find! Is it The Harvey Pittel Saxophone Quartet Live in Chicago Album? I hadn't heard of the group either. I'm streaming said album now, and I like it! Smooth is right! Not sure the SQ streamed in FLAC equals what you're hearing via LP, but it's really good.

Happy listening!
