I have a pair of invista 7000’s I am installing for rear surrounds in a 7.1 system. I have two rows of seats. I have read the manual and compared it to the Dolby guides. My question is do I follow the usual positioning angles for the rear surrounds in the Dolby 7.1 guide or do I move them further apart or closer together? Also, should these speakers be placed further back from the listener compared to other ceiling speakers? If so, what angles should I shoot for in that position? I have plenty of room (about 14 feet) behind my second row listening position. My HT room is 15’ 4” wide but my ceiling is at 94 inches. There will be a half wall behind the second row with a bar that will look into the HT from another room. The ceiling will be continuous though so nothing there to block the sound. My mains are going to end up around 10-11’ apart. I just wanted to check on the recommended placement before I start cutting holes in the ceiling. Thanks again and look forward to powering these up.

Hi

Your 7000’s will be perfect as rear surrounds!

Given your 8’ ceilings, I’d think you’d want them say 9-10’ back. Moderator Dude may wish to comment/amend.

Re angles, I guess I’d place them a tad outboard from your listening position and angle them at the listening position. Again, Moderator Dude may wish to comment.

Enjoy!

Ok thanks so that is pretty much what Dolby specs. I would still be interested to hear if the mod agrees but that is where I was thinking too.

Rick is correct. With 8' ceiling you will want them about 10-14' behind the listening area, positioned outside the L/R edge of the listening area and pointed toward the center of the room.

So based on some laser measurements using two lasers plus a laser tape measure I am coming out at 15’ from the front center seat and 9’4” for the second center seat. This is to the back of the heads in upright position. I have a joist close to the back of the speakers in this position and my joists are 24” on center so moving forward isn’t an issue. I have an open joist area right behind this one as well if I wanted to go further back. Heads for the center of the two rows are 6’ apart. That is about 150 degrees from the front seats and close to 135 degrees for the back row. I may need to move forward four inches or so to clear a joist and leave enough room for a backer box made out of 2 inch foam pieces. I figure it is better to center the speaker a little more In the box if I can versus right near the edge. What do you guys think of these distances and approach? Thanks for the help.
