Hi, I have an annoying sound that emits from a few audio tracks. It sounds like distortion, but at the lowest volumes through fairly high it does not change except for the volume increase. As a reference I hear it in 'King of Blue' track 1 'So What' at about 1min 8sec in the song(and a few other places) there is a faint horn on the right channel only in the recording and sounds distorted?? I have heard this on some other tracks on different albums. I was wondering if anyone else has had this experience? Since this is specifically on the right channel I switched L/R and the odd sound followed the channel. So I don't think I have a defective component in the right channel speaker. This album was downloaded from HDTracks in WAV format so it should be a clean recording. I have read in many places this is a good reference album for jazz. If there were distortion in the track it would have been mentioned?? I was curious if there is a specific frequency the Triton 1's have a problem with? My next step is to see my GE dealer and take a copy of this and listen in their setup. If anyone has the Miles Davis 'King of Blue' can you let me know if you do or do not hear this odd sound on track 1 'So What'?
thanks
thanks

I'm confused, I thought you said you swapped left and right and the sound followed the channel, not the speaker? Why would you be checking the speaker if you already confirmed it is not the speaker?

I was wondering if anyone else hears this. likely I have some other system component causing the odd sound. Confirming others do not hear it tells me its the recording or another system component.
Sorry for the confusion.

I have similar issue I believe. Was actually going to post about it once I had time to trouble shoot a little more. I have not heard the distortion on music as I do not listen to a lot of music, I use my speakers mostly for movies. The most common time I hear the distortion is when there is a male voice yelling. But not all male voices. It is very difficult to explain, but that is the best example I can think of. I will get specific movie scenes and post later, but a couple off the top of my head is Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (the newest one I think). When Cesar yells there are a few scenes where I can hear the distortion. Another example (not male voice yelling) is the depth charge scene in U-571. beginning of the scene when the camera is above water the explosions do not sound right. slightly distorted. This example I wasnt sure if it was in the blu ray, as it is an older movie. And as Splash mentioned this distortion is heard at any volume level.
My system sounds absolutely fantastic most of the time. I can play at high volume levels and never hear distortion except on some scenes as described above. Absolutely love Lone Survivor when the gun fight starts. sound affects are amazing.
I have done some basic trouble shooting but havent had time to spend on my system to properly find the problem.
I hear it on multiple goldenear speakers in my system, all the sources mentioned below, not really sure what the problem is.
I do not believe it is the receiver either, I have had my receiver switched out and have heard it both on the old and the new.
I never have time to look into this, but my plan is to make note of a few different movie scenes and take the discs to my dealer to see if I hear it on their system.
My system is:
Anthem MRX 510
Aon 3- main left and right speakers
supercenter xl
supersat 3 - left and right surrounds
sub is svs pb-1000
PS3
windows 7 computer running xbmc
satellite box
Splash, can you share what all the components to your system is? Have you heard distortion on any movies? I will try and get a copy of the song you mentioned, hopefully I can handle the 1 min and 8 sec of jazz. haha

If the speakers sound good on reference-quality, known recordings, it would seem self evident that whatever you are hearing is in the source and is simply being revealed by the speakers. Audio soundtrack clipping distortion (from any component, from the microphone to the output of the studio mix) is commonplace in movie soundtracks and even in some otherwise good music recordings.

Sloppy -
If its volume related that is very different then what Splash51 is saying and would beg questions like what crossover frequencies are used, room size, average listening level, etc. I can also tell you that as good as the MRX-510 sounds, if pushed it will get ugly fast (as one would expect). Short term peaks-related clipping distortion is very audible - as is over-driving mid/bass drivers - I would consider both to be possibilities.
