I would suggest reversing the polarity to see if the hum goes away. Use a non-polarized cheater plug to try this. If this solves the hum problem you may want to pull the amp off and reverse the leads to the ac jack so you don't need to use the cheater plug.

I stopped by Home Depot the other day, and they didn't carry any non-polarized cheater plugs. Then, looking on the net, I can't seem to find any. They seem to be a rarity these days.

Safety bullet #10 on page 3 of the SSXXL states not to attempt to defeat the safety feature of the polarized plug. This is a little disconcerting (so I'm pretty hesitant to reverse wiring in the sub). With respect to the power cord, can I order one for the SSXXL from GE?

1) Yes you can buy a replacement cord, or better yet, just ask the selling dealer to get you the correct cord.

2) Ignore that warning. Non-polarized cheaters are probably an online order item these days, probably easier just to reverse the wires on the ac receptacle and give it a try.

Are you referring to reversing the wiring here? It is essentially glued onto the back of the ac outlet with black goop. By the way, the amp plate had other circuit boards connected to it that I wasn't aware of as I unscrewed the 20 screws connected to it (not realizing that it was only the outside, larger screws, that are relevant. Already have scratches on the back of this, now, because everything fell of the plate as I pulled it off (as delicately as I could, using plastic utensils designed for opening an iphone--i.e., without scratches). Not a fun ordeal. I don't want to change any kind of wiring without visual confirmation--especially because of the black goop. I don't think this was intended to be switched like this.

Hmm. All the ones I've seen can easily switch the terminal lugs, looks like someone got carried away with the sealant. Your dealer can order a replacement amp for that sub as a way to deal with the hum problem. Or just grab a pliers and pull off and reverse.

Mine have hot glue on them, that must be a newer version.
