Ok, the new sub’s SN is as follows: ELGA N1 1015 00681

The “old sub” is: ELGA N1 1015 00652

And for what it is worth, the new two pronged cord actually seems a bit more robust (a tad thicker). The sub was bought at a legit GE dealer. The used was bought on Audiogon from a reputable used online dealer.

Those are exactly the same units in terms of production. Can you tell me if the receptacle in each sub (remove the power cord to see) is also two prong on one sub and three on the other?

Both are two pronged. Does this mean anything? lol I'm a little worried what the implications are.

And when I say both are two pronged, I mean that there are only two prongs embedded in each sub, where the power cord connects. But one of the subs has a three pronged power cord.

Yep, that makes sense now. The 3 prong power cord is not the one that came with the sub as new.

I would suggest reversing the polarity to see if the hum goes away. Use a non-polarized cheater plug to try this. If this solves the hum problem you may want to pull the amp off and reverse the leads to the ac jack so you don't need to use the cheater plug.
