But these Subs from GE have rave reviews as well for being musical. Tight, taut and get deep. Looking forward to hearing one soon.

When you say the "ultras fixed that", do you mean the SB13U sealed ? I'd love to get your opinion of the XXL vs other subs in an A-B listening comparison test

Yeah, Buddy, JL is great stuff, but a "bit more pricey" is a BIG understatement!!!!

Sorry twinturbo11, opinions will vary, but I don't consider that sub to be in the same class as the XXL at all. Now the Fathom and Gotham series are some serious contenders, and my nose is bleeding just checking out the prices.
But YMMV.

twinturbo11 wrote: The built-in Triton 1 subs are amazing. I had a very good experience with them, as they were tight, fast, and compressed the room. For whatever reason, my XXL , to me, sounded very different -- it was a bit flabby, slow, and didn't compress the room. There is a chance my particular sub had a rare defect, not sure, as i returned it.

The SuperSub XXL design is an outgrowth from and improvement upon the development of the Triton One's bass section. It has become the quiet favorite of audiophile reviewers who have purchased them from us for their own systems. They do so because they are the most musical and articulate subs available that are not the size of a coffin or cost more than a luxury vacation. Your experience is an outlier, I'm not even going to guess at the reason, but it is way out of bounds with everyone else's experience.

twinturbo11 wrote: Maybe... who knows... I mean it wasn't bad, just quite average. To be honest, I feel a bit let down in this area, as I gave repeated chances. First sub was a def tech, then force field, then the XXL... it seems to be a pattern...

I'd say there's something wrong with whatever you are doing to evaluate, as it is unlikely all those subs were defective.
