Trying to understand speaker placement. I know that speakers can be affected by the flooring, side walls, placement in relation to the size of room, furnishings, etc.

I thought I read on your website and I could be wrong that the towers could be placed as close as 8 inches to the back wall. I then read a review that recommended 24 to 36 inches from the back wall.

Can these speakers be placed a foot out from the wall without destroying the speakers natural sound qualities or introducing artifical muddy base? They will be used with the 50C and surrounds for a home theater system.

If not I suspect usisng 5 SuperSat 50's + sub would be the next best thing. If you only made speaker stands for the 50s - just a thought.

Thanks

Thanks for your interest in the GoldenEar speakers.

Room placement is always (with any speaker) a trade-off of performance versus aesthetics. One thing about reviewers, they will wrestle the last little bit of performance out of a speaker in for review without any consideration of real world placement. The Triton Two is not a bipolar or dipolar speaker and can certainly be placed as close as 8" to the back wall.

One of the nice features of the Triton Two is the ability to adjust the bass level to the room placement - if you end up a bit tight to the back wall or corners, just toe the speakers in a bit more and dial down the bass level a bit to compensate for the extra room gain. Most of the common room correction EQ systems will also help fix any room-induced bass "bumps" placement may have yielded.

Lastly, we do make a table stand for the SuperSat 50 and a floor stand for the SuperSat 3 and there are other speaker stand vendors offering floor stands that could be used with the 50's.

Thank you - your explanation helps.

I do have one follow up question before I make the 100 mile drive to a dealer.

While I'd like to use the Triton Two Towers with the 50C I have a placement issue with the center being 27 inches. If I buy the Towers what do I lose if I use the 3's 12 inch center channel or is it even something I should consider?

thanks

The SuperSat 3C is a perfect timbre match to the Tritons and will be excellent as a center channel. However, in order to equal the output of the Tritons, it will require a higher crossover point than the 50C - which is not a problem in a Triton based system thanks to the left and right powered woofer sections. Just make sure to set Front Left/Right to: LARGE, Subwoofer to: NONE, Center to: SMALL and crossover to: 120Hz on your A/V Receiver/Processor.

Thanks again for your interest.

Could you be more specific about which vendors are out there that have speaker stands to support the Sat 50's in a vertical position.
