I'm a new owner of GoldenEar Triton One, and I'm using them with Devialet Expert d200 amplifier:



Currently I'm using speaker cable, as it is commonly recommended.

Devialet d200 has a very advanced "subwoofer crossover" for a 2-channel amplifier:

Would there be any benefit of running speaker connection with just the higher frequencies and then LFE interconnects with all the low frequency information? I would have tried it already, but I have to buy the interconnects long enough - at least 2 x 3m. Anyone tried both setups?

No, you will never achieve the best sound quality that way.

I'm sure that's not true, but, for stereo playback using an external crossover and the LFE could only harm things. Nothing wrong with experimenting, of course, and who knows, some people (Art?) may find they like some combination of things better than "correct". To each his own, and obviously, you own them, have at it ... certainly won't hurt anything.

I really have no need to tamper with the setup, all the frequencies are seamlessly blended together right now - something external crossover could really spoil by adding some unneccesary delay or mismatch... And it is still really flexible, bass level can be adjusted on speakers or on amplifier with a remote control (I can also set the frequency and slope of this adjustable bass region).

I used XTZ 99.36 Mk II. before I bought second hand Triton Ones. They use Fountek tweeters and Seas units, and should really punch above their price level (arround 1200 EUR when I bought them 7 years ago, now they sell similar FLR model for 1600 EUR). I listened to the Triton Ones in audio shows here, presented by the importer and turntable manufacturer Franc Kuzma, and really loved them. But I feared this purchase could be more of a lateral move than an upgrade, but fortunately they really improved all the categories of sound. I thought the biggest improvement would be bass - it's depth and speed, but I must say the treble and midrange detail is something I am even more impressed right now!

I strongly second your recommendation to experiment and find out what sounds best. It is important to understand the different ways that your equipment can be connected and set up. There are so many variables available.

Each individual needs to be willing to explore the options available to his or her particular setup. I believe that is the only way to zero in on the best setup in each situation.

Read to understand how your gear operates, what options are available, and how to implement the various available options.

Then, have at it!! Be not afraid to experiment and to defy "conventional wisdom". In the end, best sound is where you find it.
