Hi,

What model should I consider for a room that is 12' x 18' with a vaulted ceiling. The short wall is 9' high and the opposite wall is 14'. I've been considering the Triton 1 but think the Triton 2+ is more than sufficient with one of the SuperCenter speakers. I'm not planning to get a separate subwoofer. I listen to music 70% and watch movies 30% of the time.

Thanks...

2AnalogEars,

Welcome to the forum! I think either model would sound great, but the T1s will give you more in the low end and sound a little fuller/warmer in the mid-range. That was my experience in comparing the two speakers.

Do you have a set budget? If you were doing 70% home theater, I'd say go for the T2+, but you're more into music and I don't think the T2+ is quite as good as the T1 in that arena. Just my .02. Best to go and do a first hand audition yourself with some familiar recordings and sound level meter to decide what you prefer. Try to remove as many variables in the demo as possible. Let us know what you find in your listening comparisons.

Cheers,

T Cobe

Yet another "welcome to the forum" 2AnalogEars :)

Please allow me to answer your question with a question. If budget isn't a factor, why wouldn't you get the T1's?

Hi T Cobe,

Thank you for the welcome and advice. I figured the T1s would be the better choice but I thought maybe they would be too much for the size of my room. I thought maybe the T2+ would be sufficient since they are supposed to be designed similar to the 1s but I agree there is nothing like a real demo. The problem is I don't have a dealer with a showroom (just a custom integrator where I live) so I'll have to make a trip to a dealer with a showroom to hear for myself.

Thanks again for the advice.

Hi GDHAL,

I just thought the T1s might be too much for a small room and to a smaller degree price but the sound is more important. I'll have to take a listen for myself.

Thanks...

2AnalogEars,

Have you listened to either of the Tritons yet? What other gear will be in the signal path of the music and video? A little more info may help with a recommendation.

It's been said many times here on the forum that there is no such thing as too much speaker for a space, but there is too small a speaker. Based on a real rough calculation, you appear to be around 2,700 cubic feet in your room, depending on the angle of the vault. That puts you near the border between a medium and large room from an audio standpoint.

That said, my guess is that both would be sufficient and sound great. We are talking about various degrees of good here, but if you don't want to use an external sub and want to ensure you have enough power to energize your room, the T1s would be a safer bet. Additionally, the sound is fuller/warmer and they simply sound a bit more "musical" to me. Headroom is always nice to have and you never know what the future holds. You could end up in an even larger space.

I think a drive to your nearest dealer for a demo would be worthwhile. Again, we are talking a few degrees of separation between the two and only you can decide what the value of that difference is to you. In the end, it's all about what makes you happy. Please let us know what you find in your demo.

Cheers,

T Cobe
