I have been out of the audio loop for many years. I sure would appreciate it if you folks might advise me on what the "best" means of attaching speaker wire to, say, the GE Triton 5, and the Supercenter XXL...e.g. using "banana plugs" or better to go "bare wire in there??
I have a Denon AVR-2310 to connect up to these 'bad boys.'

Thanks for any advice ! I am excited to get rolling in the near future on these.

Tommyboy,

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your T5s and SCXXL! That should make for a great sounding front three!

If you're buying pre-fabricated speaker wires, spades or bananas probably don't make too much of a difference. If you're using bulk wire, I would just go bare wire into the terminals. I recently tried some mid priced bananas that were gold plated brass, and for whatever reason, I was losing at least 3dB in the treble range. If you purchased gold or silver plated copper, it may be less of an issue, but again, straight wire takes one less variable out of the equation. That's my .02. Please let us know what you discover.

Cheers,

T Cobe

Tommy:
T Cobe has given you some good advice. Many feel that bare wire at the terminals is your best bet for purity of sound. Now if you are like me, I like to listen to different speaker wires. A high quality banana gives me the ease of quick swapping back and forth. Any hookup you choose, be it bare wire, bananas, spades, etc. should sound great with any and all GE speakers.
D-Sonic m3a-600m Mono > McIntosh MC152 > Primaluna ProLogue Premium Preamp > Oppo UDP205 > Decware ZLC > Triton Reference > Isoacoustics Gaia 2 > Canare 4S11 Speaker Cables > Audience Forte 3, Anticable L3 & Shunyata Venom PC's

Every great performance deserves an Audience!

Tommyboy, what did you decide and how does it sound?
I too use banana plugs or spades. I don't like the corrosion I get on bare wire, myself, I like a well terminated connection with good shrink wrap over it then a corrosion proof (resistant?) plating over the bananas or spades.
But this is all just opinions, what about yours now?
God Bless, Wayne
God bless the child that's got his own.
